sierra gearbox

Post by Crawford »

Taken my old gearbox out, the new one is going in 2morrow

Just noticed that a bolt which goes on the side of where the shifter goes in was very very loose, wouldve this been making all the noise?

I also tried to turn the shaft and it grinds and crunches and makes all strange sorts of noises.. is this a sign that the gearbox is well stuffed!? when i took it out 1000km ago to change clutch the shaft was turning very easily with no grinds or grunts

any infomation be great guys!

Cheers :)

This bolt will control the shifter moving around. is there anything missing from the bolt? i had one once break and drop the broken bit into the box and go gear finding. Usually the bolt should be tight and about 10mm long after the thread bit.

Gearbox sounds broken. is it crunchy to drive? or shifter just wayward

cheers

shifter wayward, gearbox rattles like crazy in 1st/2nd/3rd/5th gear... i got told not to drive it home from pemberton - bunbury, but i did just kept it in 4th gear.

i got told i screwed up the box cause i drove it under a load for a long distance in 5th gear!! not sure how true that is

but yeh that bolt was loose as.. i am hoping that wasnt all the noises i was hearing!
