Maverick Wheel Size?
Maverick Wheel Size?
My 1990 Maverick has standard 16"x6" rims (White), with no flare kit.
WHY?
Other Mavericks came standard with 15"x7" rims (painted Gold), with the flare kit. Most GQ Patrols also have 15 inch rims.
Why does my Maverick come standard with the narrow 16 inch rims? Are the front disc brake rotors larger? Maybe twin piston? Maybe Ford just wanted to be different?
Because they are so cheap, can I run 15x7 GQ Patrol rims on my Maverick (with 31x10.5R15 tyres)?
Can anyone with far greater technical knowledge than I tell me exactly what I can and can't do?
Dave

why yours has 16" rims i am not sure, as most patrols from 1988 to 1992 used 15x7's.
Patrols though usually run a 31x10.5x15 tyres on a 4.1:1 Diff setup. According to Gregories, Ford Mavericks came with a 3.9:1 diff setup and usually run 29" tyres.
No your breaks should be only Single Piston Callipar setup like mine, EFI models came with a Twin Piston Setup and thats why they ran 16" rims. EFI was in the 1992 and beyound model so i doubt you have Twin Piston

gregorys is wrong, mine has 4.1 diffs. you'll be fine putting 31's on there with 15x7 wheels. Even better get 33's with 15x8 wheels and a couple of inches lift. I think the XL mavericks came with the pizza cutters and the XLT's with the wide wheel pack. It might also have been an optional extra, who knows.

16" rims on 215/80/16 were one of the wheel options.
There were 3 options on early GQ's - 7.50R16, 215/80/16 and 31x10.5x15.
You can put 31" or even 32"s on with no suspension lift and no mods.*
Even in restrictive QLD 32"s are a legal mod with no hassles.
There's no reason why you cant put them onat all.
Later GQ's that came standard with 265/75/16 though need to have 16" rims due to different brake sizes.
If you go for wider rim offset though you may need flares. Factory flares will just cover 33x12.5 at -25 offset but you can always use flexiflares.
Standard widewheel pack is 0 offset 15x7" rims and the 16x6" are soemthing really yukky like +10 or worse. They make the car look revolting.
* unless we're talking simex 32"s or 32" swampers or something

Maverick Wheel Size
Thanks everyone for the help.
Sounds like I can definitely go with 15"x7" with 31x10.5R15 all-terrain tyres. I have found a set of genuine flares.
(So if anyone has any tyres/rims for sale, let me know by PM)
Ciao

To check the ratio of your Diffs there is a plate on the drivers side of the car near the right hand headlight on the side panel. It will have the Engine model, Colour code for the pain work and the transmition including the Transmition model number and DIFF model. Mine is HG39 which is the 3.9:1. 99% of mavericks came with the 3.9:1. Only the XLT's came with a 4.1:1 setup. as they were the top of the line Maverick (some even had the rear lockers)

Well I'd sell you mine (factory wide wheel kit in gold) but the transport cost from brissy would be a bitch.
31"s on 15x7 should be available secondhand for a couple of hundred for the set. Someone in Newy was just offloading a whole bunch of stuff in the For Sale section.
Since you already have rims to get around on there's no urgency.
You can also use Landcruiser (but not the 5 stud ones) or Hilux rims, Pajero rims, Ford Courier , Holden Rodeo/Jackaroo/Frontera.
Almost all of the main 4wd rims are interchangeable - with the exclusion of the 5 stud stuff.
New the rims are worth about $50-$60 each

Do be carfull fitting other rims becouse the front free wheeling hubs on the patrol/maveric are slitely larger in diamiter than toyota and most of the time nissan rims fit toyota but not usually the other way around, but some do fit. the 16x6 where also fitted to what some called country paks whitch is what my maveriv is, fitted with the xlt options but still skinny wheels and diesel whitch i beeleve was not usual on the XLT models. some also came with 215R 16 tyres witch were a joke.
I think the main problem comes when people fit "factory fitted" toyota rims.
Any of the Generic Sunraysia type rims with 'Cruiser offset normally work fine. Never seen anyone ever have a problem fitting them.
Maybe the aftermarket ones are all just a couple of mm bigger so they're a one size fits all option???

Your right here. I brought some 15x8 Sunnies from local rag, theya re Landcruser offset rims yet they fir the Patrol range easy. The factory Toyota ones don't quite fit, you can have them skimmed out cause its only 2-3mm that they don't fit by.

Its actually the other way around Patrol Rims wont fit on Landcruisers because of the size of the dish, they actually foul on the front brakes on the 60 series onwards.
