why reverse is disengaging????

Post by boogdude »

I have already posted on here about why my reverse gear pops out when under any load. Just wondering whether anyone on here could think of what it could be. Don't want to have to pay a mechanic to pull it apart so any info would be great. car is a 84 4runner 5sp manual

It's not something simple like you've changed the gearbox position and the rubber stick boots are pulling it out?

Perhaps the selector rod detents are a bit how-u-going, that or your idler gear has too much float.
