Theres an adapter available from Safari to get rid of it, they also sell longer section of 3inch pipe to go from the airbox to the adapter which replaces the precleaner.

Im pricing one tomorrow, will let yer know.

so u did away with the main filter onto of the motor and just run the precleaner as the only filter ??

i have A1MAV's precleaner ans was thinking bout using it as a primary filter on my 2.8D lux(soon 2 have a turbo) do K&N or finer filter make a replacement filter 4 the precleaner ?? any thoughts ??

K & N do make a filter to fit the precleaner, but they don't seal very well around the bottom because of the protruding rivets - some self adhesive door sealing foam (hardware store item) will do the trick. Because of the way the intake comes straight into the precleaner box, bugs and shiat will clog the fins of the KN. Simple fix - stick one of the missus's stockings over the filter element - the fine fabric gauze prevents the large stuff entering the steel guaze and making it a real pain to clean. The stockings also seem to prolong the filter term before cleaning.
