Swivel Hub Gaskets... Wat order???

Now my left hand swivel hub has been letitng water into it for a while now.. so i put a kit thru it and it is still doin it.. now my question is wat order do the gaskets go...??? I put them in the same as they were b4 but i have a feeling they were wrong so i changed them..

I have now put them in the rubber first then the steel bit then the felt.. is this right..?

Its on an 80 series

Been a while since i have done a set but from memory it rubber, felt, then steel

The rubber is the actual seal, the felt helps to clean the ball for the rubber to slide on and the steel hold the lot to the hub housing

im pretty sure its the same as a solid front hilux on the bare knuckle
1st felt dust seal
2nd rubberseal
3rd steel ring

This way is from the outside of the knuckle inwards.... sooooo

it would be...

put the rubber ring bit in its place first, then the steel ring over the back of it ..... and finally the felt, which should be held in place by about 8 small bolts.

That should do the trick... I done it heaps of times on my trucks and the only way it really stuffs them is when the axle seals goes and oil gets into the CV and waters down the grease in it... which leaks thru the back of the knuckle and also into the hubs sometimes too...

This is the correct order for sure during assembly
1 fit steel ring into stepped bore of swivel housing
2 fit rubber seal
3 fit felts seal
4 fit securing plates and 6mm retaining screws.

that is is the correct order for sure.

This is the way i had it b4 but u could see a gap between the housing and the rubber.. if u looked at the back ot the housing u could see into the top swivel bearing....

Is it touching the bottom but not the top?

Does it wear the inner axle seal out fast?

If so you need to take some shims out of the bottom trunion bearing and fit them to the top.

There is no shims in the bottom of it tho... i had thought of that

Like Wally said.

If you don't fit the steel backing ring 1st, I think the rubber seal could be pushed in and would not seal on the swivel ball.

The rubber seal has a ridge on one side, near the outside. This side, with the ridge goes against the felt part.
