Diplomat Challenge of Indonesia
For those of you who did not know the Diplomat Challenge of Indonesia began today in Kalimantan (Borneo). Australia are represented by Team Simex Australia - Neil Cooper & Chris Hummer in Neils Hilux.
The DIPLOMAT CHALLENGE event is a yearly calendar event of the Indonesian Off-Road Federation (IOF) and is staged at the end of every year. The 2005 DIPLOMAT CHALLENGE event is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, IOF and WISMILAK.
The mission of this event is not only to enjoy the competition, but also to mutually enjoy the scenic drive through mountainous areas, rivers, etc and to promote tourist spots and learn more about the diverse Indonesian culture. Building relationships between people from across the globe as well as building mutual trust and understanding among one another is also part of our mission.
RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT, MUTUAL COOPERATION AND SPORTSMANSHIP
CLASSES
Class 1. Up to 2000 cc.
Class 2. 2001 cc to 3000 cc Petrol.
Class 3. 2001 cc to 3000 cc Diesel.
Class 4. 3001 cc to 5000 cc.
Class 5. Unlimited (over 5001 cc, any type of chassis allow and Portal axles )
Class 6. Spectator.
Class 7. Motorcycles.
* Champion Trophy the highest total point.
SUPPORT VEHICLES
Each team is allowed to use own support vehicle, which but must be registered with DCI Secretariat and a IDR 1,000,000 entrance fee paid per support vehicle with 2 persons. Each extra passenger must pay IDR 250,000. DCI will provide Shirt, T-Shirt, cap, insurance and dinner at closing ceremony. Support vehicle route will be set by the DCI 2005 Event Director. All expenses for transportation, accommodation, drinks, food, fuel, etc at own expense.
PROVISION
All Competitors, Spectators and Journalists must bring own drinks and food for 10 days, jacket, raincoat, clothing, boots, tent, sleeping bag and anti-malaria tablets.
FUEL
Petrol Premium Rp 2.400 / litre (US$ 0.25). Diesel Rp 2.100/lt (US$ 0.22).
EVENT SCHEDULE
Nov 28 Arrival of all foreign participants in Jakarta.
Check-in at official Hotel.
Dec 2-5 All foreign participants will travel by air from Jakarta to Banjarmasin. Travel time is about 1 hour 30 minutes. Check-in at official Hotel.
Dec 4 Arrival of all foreign spectators and journalists in Jakarta.
Check-in at official Hotel.
Dec 5 – 7 Scrutineering from 9 am to 6 pm at official Hotel in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
Dec 5 All overseas spectators and journalists will travel by air from Jakarta to Banjarmasin. Travel time is about 1 hour 30 minutes. Check-in at official Hotel.
Dec 7 Briefing at 7 pm at official Hotel.Banjarmasin.
Dec 8 Grand opening at 10 am at official Hotel Banjarmasin.
Dec 8 Prolog 3 SCS at central of the city of Banjarmasin.
Dec 9 Re-grouping prior to traveling from Base-camp 1 to Balikpapan city.
Dec 9-17 Traveling from Base-camp 1 to Balikpapan through Central Kalimantan Province. The route will be 70 percent through jungle, on dirt road, on which wet and muddy conditions are expected, slippery uphill and downhill terrain. 9 SCS will be held in jungle route.
Dec 17-18 Regrouping prior to traveling from last Basecamp to Balikpapan. About 3 SCS will be held in center of Balikpapan city.
Dec 18 at 7pm closing ceremony will be at official Hotel, Balikpapan. Dinner and local traditional dance performance present at closing ceremony and award presentation.
Dec 20 Participants, Journalists, Spectators and Officials will travel from Balikpapan to Jakarta by air, taking about 1 hour 30 minutes and reaching Jakarta in the afternoon.
Dec 21 Overseas Participants, Journalists & Spectators return to home country from Jakarta Airport.

DCI Update
After Yesterday & Last Nights SS Neil & Chris are currently in 4th, only 20 points off the lead.
They posted the fastest time on last night's stage & top 10 times on the other stages.
No DNF's as yet & for those of you wondering no breakages either.

Team Simex Australia are still in 4th place with no DNF's unlike a number of other teams.
Indonesian offroader still leading in the first 2 SCS, in Cilik Riwut, Palangkaraya, finally they finished the SCS 1, and 2 on Thursday, 22.30 at night (Kalimantan time),
The Australian offroader in the 4 th place, the temporary result:
1. Budi Hartoyo/Tri Haryanto , from Purworejo,Indonesia, Toyota FJ 40
2. Arifin Gunawan Alloy/Kurniadai , from Bandung Indonesia, Toyota FJ 40

To day 10 December 05, they start the extreme route, from Hanyu river to Bakanon river, it will take 2 days journey, there will be many high hills to climb, and the road is very narrow, so the car can not over pass each other. Hope that during this route every car can do it smoothly.

TIGGR6 - Got the plates but not the car...

TIGGR6 - Got the plates but not the car...
Entering day 5, only 16 cars reached Muara Teweh, at 7.30 pm (Kalimantan time), the other teams left behind have a days journey ahead of them to catch up.
Team Simex Australia offroader reached the Muara teweh together with the first group. No problem.
Some of the teams left behind are still doing the SCS 4,5 in the jungle.
So, those who have reached Muara Teweh have an extra day to rest & repair their vehicles before regrouping to do the SCS 6&7 in Muara Teweh as scheduled.
To days track is OK, because there is no rain, no more accident happened.
Latest word fron Neil & Chris is that it is F!@#ing HOT! But having a good time.
The guys had a late one the other night, fixing an Altenator & Radiator, due to the 5ft + Bog Holes.
Sorry but no pics, due to bad internet connection from Indonesia.

A few issues, the least of which was the extreme heat, illness & truck swallowing bogholes, saw Team Simex Australia drop out of the top 10.
But in true Aussie style Cooper & Hummer fought back on Day 6 to post their best result for the event so far & bring them back in to the top 10.

After 2 days in Muara Teweh, the competitors continued their journey, starting at 8 o’clock in the morning (Wed 14 Dec), they finally decided to stop and camp after Base Camp 6 in Lampoeng; at Sambung village.
Today the competitors must travel almost 140 KM; although the route is not as extreme as Hayu river-Jakatan pari, no one is eager to drive too fast as they have to be careful, especially in Mumpuah village. There is a traditional law said, if somebody hits a pig, the fine is USD 1,000 !!!
The result in SCS 6,7 in Muara Teweh is as follows:
