bogged, body has very little to do with mechanics of 4wding, which is why i dont see why this hammer couldnt do serious 4wdriving, ie winch challenges and the like. I reckon it would do as well as the original body it's replacing if not better (lighter)

As far as I know.... Paul gets them complied with 35" tyres. You may have to call him and find out a bit more info on how this is done as I don't actually have it. As it is Pauls business he'll be able to tell you how he goes about it.
As far as their off road capabilities..... They'll go anywhere a modded Patrol will. You can use all the aftermarket suspension/steering etc for a Patrol as it is a Patrol chassis/drivetrain that is used. They just look different.

Oh I agree, but I was told that the bodies are wider on these (like the real hummers but not that bad) than standard patrols which could be a Cookie in tight sections in comps.jessie928 wrote:Bogged,

bambam, I chose to build the MQ/MK based Hammer (leaf springs), its only skinnier by 100mm, cause I picked up the whole car for $800 with only 158k on the clock, slight front panel damage, It had all the things I needed, power steering, LSD, Divorsed transfer (for ease of bolting up the 4 speed auto), and an un butchered wiring loom. the Wheels are 15 x 10 Pro comp alloys, the tyres are 35x12.1x15 Pro comp X-Terrains, the freight to Gero was Free, cause we bought 2, Paul said it was about $1300 ea.

Let me just say you canr get these complied with 35in tyres,
I built one at a previous job afor a customer and paul said it was the first one that anyone had put onto a gq he only had ever done mq/mk kits so let me tell you it was a major hassle trying to get the kit complete as alot was engeneered elsewhere.
the one i built had 35in tyres orange/harlequen paint inject 308 t700 custom tube bars and side steps and 4 seater with built in fridge /computer/ t.v and subs and amps and u name it it was in it but ha the customer was ova the moon about it i thought it was a bucket s-it.
only cause i no how the kit was as a apposed to a patrol i no what i would have spent me 60k on. not a hammer look a like

choppa1978, 60 grand does sound a bit much eh, mine has a budget of 35 grand, there is one registered in perth with the same driveline as mine, he said that getting it registered was easy. I also got a pre approval for the building of the kit from the tech department at WA transport, they said that as long as I build it to how i stated in the application, i should have no worries, fingers crossed eh!!

After Xmas I will be looking into the pros and cons of building a Blizzard on a GQ SWB chassis, they at the moment are not DOT approved for Rhino to be building them and selling them as turn key vehicles, but for me to buy a shell and build my own it should be ok.
The Blizzard has been built as a convept car and DOT are being painful with approving it for him, but the Hammers etc are OK and have full approval.
But DOT have a specific clause for 1 of vehicles called "ICV", "Independantly Constructed Vehicles", which allows a little bit of slack for 1 off builds.
There is also a DOT approved engineer in Hervey Bay who can give me all the guidelines to build it to.

Due to the current ADR rules, and as much as we would like to, we are not sure if we are going to even release the Blizzards in Australia.We are only building the Blizzards for overseas clients as these pose no problem registering in the U.K. USA and Arab Emirates, even down to using the 38"tyres. As you know in certain states we cannot legally use 35" tyres.

Not quite that simple.We will need to modify wiper sweep, change the angle of the windscreen, possibly look to insert glass into the sides, prove adequate driver visability, side impact testing, seatbelt anchor point strength testing, plus, plus, plus.....basically because they are so different we think that the authorities just do not want them on the roads. We have also now built a Blizzard in long wheel base wagon configuration and will have a ute version available soon, all for overseas release.

I only have phone camera pics, got the body delivered about 8.30 in the morning, finnally got in on the chassis after hours of oooooh and aaaaaah's, the suspension only has a 2 spring lift and the body comes with a 2 inch lift, so the roof height is'nt much more than a lifted patrol, but cause the body is so wide and sqwat the sills are high off the ground and the wheel arches are so big, it just gives it a monster truck look. the rear end has come down a bit now, just had to flip the shackles back, cause they were pulled as far farward as they could go.

Just an update, the fire wall is now painted, the radiator and condenser are now fitted, new aircon unit is in, brakepedal and booster is in, modded steering column and power steering is hooked up, and the doors are off to get painted.
