Lexus V8 into 60 series

Post by Guy From Nowhere »

Hey all,

was just wondering if anyone has done one or knows of someone who has. We are thinking of getting a front cut Lexus (probs Soare (sp)) and throwing it into the FJ60 to replace the poxy 2f. The lexus V8 is only a 4L but delivers super amounts of tourque where its needed. On the look for one that is already supercharged so I don't have to do that myself.

Anyways all comments needed (only relevant ones...not the normal you are a knob ones :D)

Cheers

Where is it needed in your books? (super tourque?)

They are fairly lazy below 2500rpm for a V8, but go like a cut cat after that. Unless supercharged like you mention...............

Having said that, it'll be still tourqier down low than the 2F.

I think you`ll find a crown half cut will be better as it has,

1 seperate ect and ecu which makes it alot easier to wire when running a man or any auto other then the one that these motors come with behind the 1uz as you just leave the ect out all together. You can even go to the extent I did and cut all the wires for the auto out of the loom, which makes the loom smaller and neater. The combined ect/ecu like in the soarer and lexus can be tricked to thinking the auto is in neutral but some people seem to have trouble with this. But if you are going to run an after market computer then none of this matters.

2 the crown has a clutch fan where as I think all the others come with some hydro fan setup. What ever it is most replace it with a crown setup.

3 the crown comes with a rear mounted remote oil filter setup, I think all the others come with a front mounted oil filter.

4 of the half cuts I have seen advertised the crown ones are allways 1 2 or 3 hundred dollars cheaper.

5 there is a wiring diagram on the net for a crown motor and it makes it so easy to wire up.

Only 2 dissadvantages of a crown motor that I can think of is they have the smallest inectors which means they have less kw (these can be changed easly) and a mid mounted sump.

I`ve seen lots of crown half cuts advertised for $2100 in magazines.

Also they are a bit low on torque down low. I`m running 4.88 diff gears and even with just the 33 bfg`s on its a bit slugish off the line for about 3 to 5 mts, once its moving its all sweet. Since I have now driven my hilux a fair bit with the 1uz in it I am used to where the torque starts and just drive it to suit. In low range I am now finding I use 1st gear alot where as I never used to with the desiel. But when I`m in 2nd and gas it it really seems to come to life instantly :D

Overall I am happy as with the motor and am more then happy that I went this way rether then the VT V6 I was given for free.
