Hello guys,
Some help on the Feroza differentials is asked from Bulgaria.
I'm wondering now about the purchase of a 1990(?) Feroza ELII. The current owner cannot be of much help with its tech specs, as she's a young driver who didn't even know she had the 4WD version (instead of 2wd/4wd one) until I looked in the manual downloaded from the warfs.org Web site.
So, some questions:
1) How can I check if the hubs have lockers or not - be they automatic or manual? The hubs on this Feroza have nice shiny electroplated hubcaps on them, that do not really look like the pics in the manual.
2) How can I check the entire differential system? The 4WD seems to be working, as the Feroza didn't spin the wheels when I tried a fast start on wet tarmac, and was climbing muddy lanes with a bit of snow without blinking an eye with central diff lever in locked position- but I have no idea if the everything is working properly.
3) Last but not least - Is there a way to drive this full WD Feroza in 2WD mode anyhow? The manual says the the transmission can be set in 2WD mode for towing, if you release the bolt underneath the transfer box. The manual says, then, that "the vehicle is unsafe to drive" in this mode. I'd be very happy to be able to switch to 2WD, though - 80-90% of my mileage is in town or on highway, and the Feroza's current fuel economy is far from good for its size (14-15 l/100 km with the propane-butane fuel system).
Any advice will be appreciated - I really like the small beast, but not sure at all if this particular Feroza is the right choice or not.
Best:
Boris
