Do soft tops have the gutters on the side of the roof at the top?
Because thats all the hardtop ones use to bolt roof racks onto.
Upon checking out a few in my pic collection it seems the fabric roof bit joins onto there, so if u didnt want to take the roof off often surley u could just clamp them down over the bit of material?

On my last Zook, I had a bar made up to screw str8 in to the horns holes then 2 rubber bumps on the front to support the bonnet when it was up. It held 4 little lights and I fed the wiring under the soft top, down around the window and behind the dash.
However, my brother had a similar mod on his with lights above the window and a nice police man defected him for it (and other things) because of some light height restriction law. (Above a certain height they are illegal apparently but it is so common) Im sure someone out there knows the correct legislation.....

Mark from Suziworx had a pretty good setup on the mud4b. He had a roll bar in the back that was as high as the soft top. He had holes in the soft top that the light bolted through. I'm not sure how he sealed it, hopefully he'll chime in here. It looked schmick, but would prolly make taking the soft top off a bit of a PITA.
yep it's illegal.... but then Jeep brought in that little hardtop with the light bar from the factory, took em some fighting but they got it past ADR.KCZ00K wrote:On my last Zook, I had a bar made up to screw str8 in to the horns holes then 2 rubber bumps on the front to support the bonnet when it was up. I believe if you have the solid covers on then you're ok as they are non functional, other option is the lay down setups similar to what the big Patrols are runnin in competition.

my brothers Zook used to do this and never had any problems. I also have spotlights attached in a similar position on my exo. I have gotten arounf the legality issue by having a disconnect in the wiring so they aren't hooked up on road but can be easily connected for offroad use. They have passed rwc and police checks without any problemsPinball wrote:Thought of fabbing something to hang off the "horns" your hood lays back on?
Mind you... i wouldn't guarantee the longavity if you like to throw your rig about...
