bead breakers

has anyone made there own bead breaker? and if you have have you still got the plans for it? or know how much it cost to make?

(yes i know you can just run them over with another car, but all our other cars are to low so the tyre wont fit in)

I haven't made one but advice from my experiences.

R&R Beadbreaker - fairly easy to make but VERY slow to use and difficult to get the claw to get in close to the bead. Usually just drags down the sidewall with the bead staying in place.

Tyrepliers - I own a set and are very easy to use and quick but you need to be fairly strong to use them. They also will probably damage alloy wheels as they seem to scratch the paint of steel rims pretty easy.

Driving a car over a tyre with flexible sidewalls on rims with larger bead lips will not work. Seen a 36" TSLs with 2 cars on it not even come close to budging.

Honestly, the Tyrepliers are pretty cheap. Just go buy some, you won't save much making your own.

i put the hilift on the tire and jack away hase not failed yet. tire plyers are tops too

Yep, made my own, no pics though. I'll try to take some in the next few days.

Lately, I've been using a screw type bottle jack, inverted under a chassi rail on the Mav, to break the beads (I do a lot of tyre repair and swaps at home by hand)
