comfy seats in a hilux?

Post by Yumsylux »

Was wondering what kind of seats has anyone put into their hilux to make things a bit more comfy? I've got a 94 dual cab. Am told surf seats fit in nice but every one i find is bright red! Are there any other car's seats that bolt straight in?

I've got a pair out of a hoonda accord I think they are. The two front mounts lined up perfectly, they one on the transmission tunnel needed to be packed up about an inch but otherwise striaght in fit and the outer one on the back needed to have a small piece of plate welded on as it misses out on the factory hole by about 1/2 an inch.
They were $250ish from Alljap on Sandgate Rd in perfect condition.

check ebay/trading post i picked up a set of MR2 ones for 300 that had already been fitted into a lux. bolt in, and even got the engineering plate (obviously not for my truck but at a glance, looks the goods.)
GU 4.2 TD Garrett BB Hi-flow, M8274 + Bells & Whistles with plenty of fruit still on the list!

I had a wrecker quote me $750 for surf recaro seats which had tears and stains on them because they were 'Recaro's'

These are the mounts on mine and a pic of the seat itself.

yeah the surf seats are way expensive. So far honda accord seats fit with a little bit of tweaking. And MR2 seats fit straight in. Do you need engineers papers just to swap the seats? That's stupid. What's dangerous about swapping seats? I have been told cressida and corona seats are ok and fit in. Toyota's must have a standard bolt arrangement

you'll need an engineer's cert if you make new bolt holes, I fitted some seats from the wreckers (yhink they are out of an import toyota of some kind) but had to drill 2 new mounting holes, 50x75mm square 3mm plate underneath and all is good.
Is it beer o'clock yet??

I doubt MR2 seats bolt in. They were modified to bolt into a lux before he bought them if I'm reading his post right.

No, that isn't safe but that was only the day I got them and tried to fit them to see what I needed to do. I knew the other 3 were fine and that that one would need altering. It's since been done and is all good.

Unless you mean the front mounts, but that is how they are from toyota and the honda seats were an exact fit to the toyota mounts.

just be carefull what seat you choose. it has to use the original seat mounting points or it won't meet ADR rules. also if you fit any seat that wasn't a factory option for that vehicle you need to get them complianced!!! I wanted Saas Buckets but too much effot to compliance so i went for a set of standard surf seats. very comfy, lumbar support and a nice deep bucket and only $300 from goldcoast 4X4 wreckers (spotlees no rips or tears). Best part is they bolt straight in so no mods or compliance needed.
My 2 Cents

As SASS said, any seats mods are supposed to be complianced. I got a set of recaros s/hand for $400, had local upholsterer knock up some mounts using the sliders off my original Hilux seats for $150 but the engineer said they need more bracing, so I'll work something out myself.
You can buy adaptors for aftermarket seats but I think they are very $$$.

Also, the high sides of the recaros are truly painful to climb in and out a lot. Nice once your in tho.

I'm running seats out of a Suzuki Cino, take up less room, comfy, would like to swap em out for some Grand Vitara as soon as I find some, leaves heaps more room in little Luxy Cab.
Try not to let your mind wander...It is too
small and fragile to be out by itself.
