2.8 lux with extractors

Post by Turbo Tonka »

hey, got extractors and an exhaust system put on my lux last week. i just said to the shop i want it breathing better and to try get its power up. they reccomended 2 1/4 from extractors and then 2 inch from muffler. i wasnt expecting a race car at all, but i can barely pick a difference, maybe revs a bit more freely. is the 2" choking it, please give your thoughts on what to do as he said if im not happy it can be changed for free. THANKYOU. and dont say it needs a turbo please :) :)

Possibly, you need to get a pressure guage and fit it before the muffler to see how many psi is getting trapped. Bear in mind too now you have made it easier for the air to get out, you also need to make it easier for the air to get in. Make sure you filter is clean and your intake system is not blocked.

But like you said, its a hilux not a race car, dont expect a huge increase just by doing some exhaust work.

I know you said not to mention "TURBO", but...............

By just getting extractors and exhaust on a non turbo 2.8 diesel, I would not have thought you would notice much difference at all, except as you have said it will rev a little easier and it will be a bit noisier.

Anyways, try checking out the air intake and perhaps getting something like a K&N of finer filter may help buy allowing a bit more air flow through, you may also look at getting your fuel pump serviced and modded slightly.

Be carefull with k&n style filters, make sure they are still fine enough for off road use.

thanx fellas, i put a snorkel and new filter on the other week and got told its pushing the air in now let it escape so thats y i got the exhaust. just been talking to a diesel mechanic and he showed me where to wind the pump up. Just a bit at a time though he said as you dont want to be over fuelling so ill give that a shot. i still might get the back changed as a 2 inch pipe coming out the back just looks pissy and cheap, lol

Do you injectors too before you go screwing around with the pump. Unless you have done them already in the last 30,000 ks.
