16x8/15x8 landy rims co-op purchase...Who's in, Vic boys?

Post by moorey »

A fine fellow on this forum has offered to get some discount rims if he gets interest in a few sets:
15x8 sunraysia style with 25mm negative offset @ $75 each if he gets interest for 20 rims (5lots of 4 rims or 4x5)
16x8 also in 25mm negatine offset will be a bit dearer he says, but cheaper than stores (my local store asking $105 per rim including freight for both 15 and 16's)
I will be rarely online over the next month, but PM (or ring 0408820237) me your interest , size preference, amount and contact. I'll gather interest and pass it on, but rest assured there is no money in it for me...
Why am i doing this? Coz I'm a busted arse povvo man and want in on cheaper rims for my defender.
BTW, I want 6 16x8's at the moment if the price is right, so only 14 more needed to get the discounts started.

Okay, the wheels are Dynamics version of the Sunraysia, and 15x8s are definitely $75 each if bought as a crate (20 rims), and are $80 when bought loose....

I'm surprised at the price you were given for 16x8s being the same though - I had recollections of them being about $10 more, but they're actually $20 more where I get them, which seems absolutely ridiculous to me for one extra inch of diameter, but anyway.

So in the end, 16x8s are $95 each in a crate buy, and $100 each loose - which to my mind, if you can get them for $105 delivered, you may as well do that, cause they can't be making much on that, and I can't really deliver anywhere other than eastern side of melbourne....

Anyways, if people want 15s (or still want 16s), they're available in black and silver, and I'll try to attach a photo of the ones on my car (black 15x8 with -25 offset)....

What sort of deal can we get with a crate of tyres as well? The bigger we can make this order the cheaper it will have to work out. 5 of 35 X 11.5 X 15 centipedes on rims...

Its not worth doing tyres. There is so little markup on tyres that you'll get just as good a deal by rocking up at your tyre place with a fistful of cash. Although I can get General tyres cheap, but I wouldn't bother...

Well, we have 8 for 15x8s if people can wait till Feb, possibly more since I believe moorey may be changing his mind, and 5 for 16x8.....

This is kind of a bookmark for me, so I don't have to keep adding it up....

PS, has anyone put standard offset 15's on a defender... There appears to be too little clearance for the caliper (6-8mm with 16's).
the 25mm offset SHOULD fix this, but is there just 1 single 15x8 available to try first?

I don't see why they wouldn't fit..... I don't know that the -25 offset will do much, but I don't believe defender calipers are any bigger than rangie or disco ones? If you were up in Melbourne at some stage you could try one of my wheels on I suppose.....

well, we're up to a crate of 15x8s... slightly over even, especially if moorey or HSV change their mind to 15x8s.

16 x 8 black rims

Post by Exteme5 »

I'd be interested in 6 of 16x8 black rims.

Question, The -25mm offset is measured from the inside bead of rim to where rim bolts to rotors (correct?)

I will be in Melbourne early Feb.
Have friend who can pick the up too.

Looking at going to 35" tyres for my '99 Defender Extreme.

No. You are talking about backspace. Offset is measured from the centreline of the wheel to the mounting face of the wheel. Negative offset means the mounting face is inboard (vehicle side) of the centreline, positive means the mounting face is outboard (Gutter side) of the centreline.

You do realise you're only saving about $40 on a set of 4 16x8s, and you have to pick them up as well?

Thanks for clearing up offset vs backspace, I can never remember the difference...

As far as rims go, it's gonna cost me more to get them where I live.
No one stocks aftermarket gear for Landrovers in my area..
I'll being in Melb. in Feb. anyhow, or my mate can pick them up (he lives there).

Just to refresh my head, who is actually organising these rims?
