Anyone running a 4.4 leyland?
I'm currently working with the engineer to get a 4.4 approved to go into my Rangie. He wants to know some details off the 4.4 block that i don't have access to at the moment. Apparently there will be details about compression/pressures etc stamped on the block somewhere. Can someone help me out with this info so i can supply it to him.
Also any information about actually doing the conversion will be greatly appreciated. I will be mating it to a ZF and running EFI.

I spoke to Adrian from Toorak Tractor Company about doing the same thing (I got a 4.4 that Im going to put into something with a ZF).
He sells the manifold adapters to run a rangie inlet manifold (or disco injection) and also does the ZF conversion to bolt up to the 4.4 leyland. I dont know whats involved with the ZF conversion for the 4.4 but he could sell me a ZF that was already been modded.
Adrian was really helpfull and knowledgable on this type of stuff so you should give him a call. His phone # is 03 - 9587 2866.
Ill have a look on my 4.4 block to see if I can see any numbers.

Thanks Sam. I just called Toorak Tractor Co. but unfortunately Adrian wasn't there. The bloke i spoke to said he didn't know much but then told me that the zf bolts straight up to the 4.4 and that i was wasting my time trying to use the EFI due to reliability.
It seems that all that is needed is the manifold adapter. This looks like its a winner!

no engineers certificate - no hassles
no adapters
more power
basically brand new motor - look at the availability of odd parts for the P76 motor especially cranks - if your P76 crank gets stuffed, i think you will need to get a new one made as they are not available off the shelf

My understanding is that the auto will bolt straight up but you have to do something to the flex plate or something cause the stock rover crank has different bolt pattern to the leyland crank. I think he was going to charge me an extra $100 to do the mod to the ZF that he was going to sell me but I havent chased it up.
Also couldnt find anything about compression/pressures etc stamped on the block but i really didnt know what im looking for but there is nothing obvious. My motor is sitting on the ground so i had a fairly good look.
I think that the stock EFI would be a good way to go and I think I will do the same. Reliability is a bit of an issue (I got an 3.9 injected disco and it has played up a couple of times) but im learning more about it as I go along so i think I should be able to sort out most probs.

I just bought a 2 door with a 4.4 mated to a LT95 or whatever.
Runs excellent with teh twin stromberg's - the plate for the manifolds is easy to pick up and the Flywheel has a different set of mounting holes - thats it.
Don't bother engineering it in vic the one I have wasn't and has the 4.4 on the rego(just as an engine swap - here's the number luv...).
It goes well - I'll give it that much!!
Goos luck, maybe give teh local chapter of the P76 club a call - I'm sure there are freaks there that could tell you the lobe wear rate for the cam after a regrind but with late duration and shorter inlet times....
Unless yo are gonna stick something blatantly obvious in your engine bay like a VN 5L with HOLDEN stamped on teh top of it - I would not bother with the 4.4 - as long as you can get the numbers past Vic Roads - your sweet!
Money in YOUR pocket is better than lining someone elses for the sake of buerocracy....
