ok my rig runs gq diffs fr+rr ,drum rear, disc front with some longer brake lines.
now the problem is the booster/master combo wont pump enough fluid to create a stiff enough pedal. i have swapped out the suzuki master cyl with a subaru forester one (1/4 inch bigger bore than stock) to help combat the problem but its not quite good enough
ive been running just front brakes for a while but would like to fix it up properly, so what i think ill need to do is run a bigger booster/ master combo so if anyone knows any useful info let me know please
my mate has a hilux with a lux booster and 40 series master which works with gqs, does anyone know if hilux booster will fit into firewall?
LJxtreem is running a MQ booster. I remember readign it was an easy swap. I'll have to let you search that, coz I can't remember anything more then that.

Gwagensteve wrote:Mock, If I recall correctly, Critta had a vitara booster in it when it was originally built. I have no idea if the vitara booster is the same pattern as a sierra booster or not, but if I was a betting man, I would bet that the MQ booster is a straight swap for a VITARA booster not a sierra booster.
Steve.
ive been tryin to say that for a while
mq will not bolt in to sierra i have both in the shed side by side and they are different
it wouldnt be hard to get it to fit but its not just a bolt in job

just measured up a gq booster, stud pattern is the same if not very close, may have to do some panel beating but ill make it fit if no one has any better ideas.
well i still dont have a super hard pedal but its a lot better. ive fitted a gq master up to a zook booster. maybe ill have to go braided lines to try improve it.
for some good tech i now know a gq patrol master cylinder will bolt straight into a stock zook booster all you have to do is lengthen the pushrod inside booster and bend your lines to fit into master! would make for awesome brakes on toy diffs or any others.
When my sierra had MQ diffs i ran the MQ booster. It did require some minor firewall adjustments but nothing major. It worked a treat even with the 36" tyres.
As Mud4b said swap out your break lines for braided units. A worthwhile upgrade even if you're running the GQ master cylinder.

yeh theres no way i could fit a mq or gq booster, id have to move steering column down about 4 inches to make it fit, they re huge boosters.

space it out from firewall to give you clearance, and make a new pushrod.
this is one of the easiest conversion in the book!
just got a two bolt gq master cyl, cost me $110.
unbolt old one, then bolt up new on with a longer push rod. got it the right length 2nd go. first time was too long, so I cut more off it, and now it is perfect.
havn't bled the brakes, but me thinks this is going to work very well.
my truck is running hilux disc front and drum rear. with 37"s
it originally failed the brake test due to too much pedal travel.
the suzi master would lock them up. it just took too long according to the machine. I thought they were good enough.
but I am sure the gq will pull it up no worries.
top work to chopzuki for working this out.

so IMO it a waste of a H
yeah I had a stainless 6mm bolt about 60mm long.
I cut the end off it, and screwed it into the push rod, then put it back together and measured the gap between the mounting faces of the master cyl and the booster, I cut that amount off, so that the push rod is pushing fluid as soon as I touch the brakes.
but like I said, its not tested yet. but thats all the old one did, so I guess its right.

thanks,
have't been "brake tested" yet, but they work heaps better, have a firm pedal straight away.
I can do foot-ons very easy.
I am going to ad the same rod a hilux has on its front diff. to stop mine diving in the front,
and rotating the diff forward, which is also wrecking my springs. its like a mini trac bar but only the single rod.
this may limit travel, but I'm going to make it a pin release. ie put a bolt through it with just an air hose pin through it. get to the trac and tack it off.
