fanbelt on gu
fanbelt on gu
If the fan belt goes on the 3ltdi patrols 2002 , does the engine go as well??
Fan belt should only control the Water Pump and Alternator.
the RD30T engine uses a timing belt, so you don't loose your timing. Just look under the bonnet and see what it controls. Commadore's use a single belt to control water pump, A/C, P/Steer and any additional devices, so if one belt goes, so does all the accessories, but not hte timing.
4.2L patrols have 2 fans belts, one for a backup in-case one fails. lets you keep going to the nearest garage, wouldn't recommend driving a car without the fan belt

AA's for Quitters
no it doesnt if the belt brakes you just loose a/c alternator and waterpump as the power steering pump is gear driven on that engine just go to nissan and buy a spare if your worried, they run a surpentine belt very easy to change just draw a picture of how the belt goes and keep it in your glove box

3lt tdi belt drives aircon, waterpump and alternator. If belt goes engine will not blow but water wont circulate so replace belt. A good suggestion I heard once was too measure for a shorter belt to fit around all except air con pulley so that if muck gets in bearing ( common cos its low ) you can isolate it before major damage. I've yet to do it - one of those jobs.
Had the idle pulley on the tensioner pack it in on the way home from Cape trip last year - engine doesn't stop, but can be big pain in the arse! Went in to Nissan Maryborough and found that you can only buy an assembly (for a modest $400 odd). Asked them to pull the "star" bolt in assembly - thought I asked for their first born!
Eventually took the assembly to farm machinery shop and got new bearing and star tool for bolt for $6.30!! When the bearing went, it shredded the belt too. I now carry a new bearing for tensioner, tool and spare belt (as always).
I have also just come back from Tassie and lost the rubber cover on the inside of FLH wheel arch which exposes the belt and tensioner, so the spares were good peace of mind.
