Engine options NH swb, will a Challenger 4-v 6G72 slot in?

Engine options NH swb, will a Challenger 4-v 6G72 slot in?
Hi all,
so as the title says, can it be done? In the never ending search for more grunt it seems like an easy way to gain 25+ kw, perhaps it's not easy at all and that's why there's not more done?
Are the Triton and Challenger 4-valve 3.0 engines identical?
Bitsamissin, got any ideas?
Will the 6G74 bolt up to the NH box?
Thanks for any info, all the searches I've done here and Paj club of Vic are inconclusive, except for that guy that recently put a 6G72 fron a magna in his...which begs the question, why doesn't the 4-valve from a magna fit?
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Yep I'm going through the same issue at the moment.
I plan to do something around April next year.
My motor is still ok (only done 165K's) and only needs the valve stem seals done. But I want more torque.
Options are : -
- drop in a 3.5 V6
- supercharge the 3.0 V6
- do some other conversion (V6 Guppydore, V8 etc).
A friend scored a 3.5 DOHC (very cheap) and is planning on dropping it into his NH swb.
He reckons it will bolt up to his 5sp pretty exactly.
I'm waiting on his results first (he's starting soon).
The problem is try and find a reasonably priced 3.5 V6 they all seem to want $4-5K.
A supercharger kit can be done for less than that you can pick up 2nd hand units from Ebay for under $1K.
No one has actually confirmed if the heads from the 24 valve 3.0 V6 will bolt onto the 12 valve 3.0 V6 some say the oil gallery holes don't match some say they do.
The whole motor as an assembly will bolt in though.
It's a tough one alright I guess it depends on what you want and how much your prepared to spend also if you can do some of the work yourself.
If I can find a 3.5 V6 for say $2-3K (with all the extra's) then that would be good if not the supercharging route will be the go. The problem with this is underbonnet room so you have to do your homework.

HI Frank, if it's any help, there have been 3.5 DOHC's sold here for around the $2500 mark as imported from Japan, worth a shot?
With a free flow exhaust and intake I think the DOHC is a great engine, free's up the low end 10 fold.

Im interested in seeing 1UZ-FE (toyota 4L V8) engine swap. They are a pretty small engine, its just a matter of finding the real dimensions and sussing out if it will plonk into the bay. It would be an awesome swap, the only problem I could see is the engine pulling 3k+ rpm at highway speeds when it doesnt need to...
to run the drive shaft down the drivers side you'll need to have some custom headers made up to move the exhaust to run along to passenger side. This has been the main hurdle stopping me with my plansJ Top wrote:Why not use a hilux trans and t/case with Marks adaptor, then your front output will line up with a hilux diff for a SAS

hmmm all sounds interesting...
bitsamissin, can you keep us posted how your mate doing the 3.5 goes?
NJV6, I think the only thing outnumbering Skylines in Auckland is swb Pajeros.
Do you know of any engine importers/wreckers there?
Time permitting, later in the year I'll look into either the 3.0 24v or the 3.5.

Hey frank,
Although the 3.5l is pretty good & has an excellent torque range, I reckon like me you will still want more......... NL Shortys blower setup looks very tempting...
This might be a good opportunity for you to once again be the guinea pig for the readily available SV6 Commodore or perhaps the Toyo 4.0l or even the Holden 5.ol
What do you reckon???
cheers

Ian, for the sort of stuff I do I'll just end up busting shit.
My 3.0 V6 has enough HP for me it's just the torque thats lacking.
A 3.5 SOHC would be fine for my application once I get those full floater rear axles. But I agree a few years of the 3.5 I'll probly be thinking about a blower
