Removing stock stone reflectors

I ripped off the plastic pos that was on there so I can get some chequer sill protectors bent up. THe plastic bit came off easy, but now I can't seem to work out how to get this bit off (see pic). Can't see any bolts or screws, so I am guessing it is glued on?

Any ideas, I bet i have missed sometihng....Pretty annoing for such a small thing.

they are spot welded on dude. you need to drill the welds out. if you look closely you can see them on the flat surfaces top and bottom about 100-150mm apart

Many people also just really carefully grind them off. Sam on NBS forum has a thread he just started on the same thing and in that thread someone has a pic of a very well done job which was painted over and dressed up etc..

I started it today. Easy as, except it came off fairly roughly. I didn't realise how soft the stock sills are Few dings in them now from the screw driver I levered it off a bit with when the weld wasn't completely drilled. Doesn't really matter though because it is all getting covered up again. Filled the tiny holes with gap filler and sprayed a bit of rust kill on it. I then folded the lip on the panels under the sill flat so the chequer will go under easy and fit nice. I'm sure she's going to look alot more bling after the little makeover.

beware that if you're replating with checkerplate or similar over existing sill... will become a rust trap again.

yeah i warped mine a little when doing it aswell.

they will turn out good once i have finished though

mine where full of rust i had tp bog some pin holes after i wire brushed/buffed all the rust off.

Sills look good Joel, shildn't they be smooth though to slide over the rocks?


I am gonig to silicon the shit out of mine, on the back around the edges so nothing can get in. It will be waterproof by the time im finished with it

if you must use a gap filler, dont use silicone. use something like sikaflex 11fc. its under $15 a tube

Good idea, silicon encourages rust I heard?

Got a shitlaod of sika around, will use that then.

That's a neat lookin job cutzook.

Neutral cure silicon will be ok for rust, it's the acetic acid in the standard stuff that really gets the rust going again, hence the vinegar smell of it as it sets.

However the sikaflex usually has better flex properties and is less likely to tear, so maintins your seal longer.
