GQ 4.2 EFI exhaust manifold sensor question

Post by Boopa »

Howdy all,

I unfortunately had to replace the head on my GQ a couple
of months back and since she seems to have been quite thirsty,
particulalry on highway running. I also has been emmitting that really
strong solphur smell from the exhaust after it has really wormaed up, strongest after say hopping off the highway and pulling up to idle.

....anyways, yesterday I was out tinkering thrying to wok out why my
spotties aren't working when I noticed the sensor for the exhaust
manifold not plugged in, or the recieving plug not even mounted where
it was supposed to be. Mechs must have missed this.

Question is, would this make a diffrrence to running, performance, economy etc?

Cheers
Dean

yes it makes a difference to the running.

plug her back in.. and the ECU should readjust now that its gettin the correct info it needs.

as because it was gettin no feedback from the o2 sensor.. that it woudl have been puttin more air/fuel thru to try to get a reading.

Now im no expert... but it may help to reset the ECU by removin the battery connection for 30 seconds to reactivate all the sensors.

thanks mate.... you mean simply disconnect all power from the main battery pos terminal? Or specifically unplug the ECU?

cheers, done deal, see how we go now! ;)

prompted me to have a bit more of a look about, found another two earth straps not connected, dunno where they're sposed to go (chasis or engine?), and my high beam loom disconeected.
slack bastards...makes you wonder bout the general work ethic applied to refitting the head itself? :?

if there are two earth straps coming off the negative terminal that isnt attached.. one goes onto the engine itself.. and the other goes on the body/chassis.

Hope that helps
