air line to winch
anyone done it for cooling and to stop water getting in? If so where do you mount air fittings on motor housing and is there a filter of some sort to get moisture out of compressed air line from tank?
what sort of winch???
low mount or high mount???
Highmounts are generally well sealed anyway & if they arn't they can be.
So you don't need to pressurise the gearhousing to keep water out, some guys run i think nitrogen to cool the winch motor, but if your having issue's get a bigger motor, enlarge the supply cable's to the winch so less volt drop to it, or run dual motor's if its a highmount & your doing comps etc...
Or just do shorter winch's to let the motor cool down, sure it takes longer but it'll save a motor

Ive got a Warn 6hp motor on my Himount, i drilled and tapped a 1/8NPT holes in the bottom of the motor case close to were it secures to the winch housing and the second hole at the top of the motor end plate. i used a Hella air horn pump ( Hi flow low pressure ) to pump air into the bottom of the motor and out of the end plate ( near the brushes, hottest place ) The pump switches on when ever the motor is running. I have done some big continious winches and the motor has only ever been warm to touch, its been like this for some time and to date had no problems.

THERES ONLY ONE SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBES AND THATS MORE and if you want more inchs stroke it !!!!!!!!!!!
I seal up the original breather with some silicon when assembling it. I dont recall any breather in the end plate of the motor only the small slot on the winch housing were the motor mates up to the winch.

Thanks E'one,
I like the idea of the airhorn compressor ( just gotta find one) cos the air should hopefully be moisture free, then I'll attach a hose on the breather and run it to the diff breathers filter under bonnet. I'm also gonna have a seperate switch so I can run it when not winching for crossing rivers etc. Mind you , this is all on the 'gonna" list
