Go and buy a GXL dash with the tacho in it.

It has to be setup from the alternator, the 80slcool list can assist i think.

I have a '93 80 with the same issue - I reckon the govenor does a great job as it is now....... It must be working - I hit it enough!

Thats teh link for the 80 list - and select teh aussie list to be a member of - the Yanks only got sold petrols and can't really assist!

Good luck!

i have been looking into this problem for quite sometime now. you can buy a GXL dash, but the GXL dash does not have the sub tank gauge in it, so this means to have a gauge for the sub tank yuo need to buy the roof mounted gauge pod. I have been quoted all up about 700 bucks for the complete set from a wrecker!! and even then you may get a faulty dash with a bung gauge and after that you have to get it fitted. the best alternative is to order an autometer diesel tach (part no. 2666) they are 2 5/8 inchs big so they will fit snuggly on the pillar and will set you back about 260 bucks. most rare spare dealers can get there hands on them.
