Winch To Gq Aluminium Bar

Post by BigQQQie »

Hi guys
i'm trying to fit a winch to a Gq aluminium bar and was wondering if anyone can shed light on how i go about it. I have heard that you can get cradles to sit the winch into ect. ?????????? :? :? :?

From what I've read on here, aluminium hasn't the tensile strength of steel for winching purposes.. you'll probably just pull the arse out of the middle of the bar, or off the mounts of the chassis or somewhere else that's been welded

Your best option would be try to source a cheap steel winch bar, then sell yours off and try to get some money back!

Cheers,

Brian.

you can buy a cradle that mounts to the chassis and not the bar..

but there are winch bars around for decent prices, would be a worth while investment, they are stronger too

I was in the same boat as you a long time ago and decided that whatever I did, it still wouldn't be strong enough in the bush anyway, so I brought a very cheap front bar second hand, sanded it back and painted it and it has done a great job. I would go out and find a cheap steel bar before I would waste money trying to mod an ally one. My opinion anyway, but good luck with it.
