Victorian modification laws (change?)

Post by backspace »

Just wondering if anyone has any information on this?

Stemmed from reading this thread.

and this

This scares me, a lot. I'm hoping this is all just chinese whispers, but I'd like to find out a little more on the issue.

If anyone does know any info on this, would they also happen to know the laws to be passed, maybe a link to a government site with the amendment set out in the proposed order (I'm dreaming now, arent I).

Thanks.

Have heard things are changing in all states, QLD is clamping down now for sus lift and the like I have just taken 4" lift out of my hilux and now have 2" sus and 2" body (which is allowed). And have heard states are all going to be the same to make it easier (but harder for us 4wders !!! :x :x :x

Cheers

There is a group working on bringing the vehicle modification laws for all states in to line with each other. Recently this group released a 900 odd page document requesting comments.

This not only relates to 4x4's. It relates to all vehicles on the road in Australia (motorbikes, trucks, 4x4's, cars, etc)

Official replies to this request for comment were made by CCDA, Victorian Four wheel drive association, and a number of victorian 4wd clubs. I'm sure interstate clubs and associations responded as well.

If i understood correctly, this draft is planned to come in to force in the next few years. For more info it's probably best to contact the Victorian Four Wheel Drive Association or CCDA.

Hope this helps you out

What the vic roads guys are talking about is the National Code of Practice (NCOP)

as hitman said thier was a draft released a while ago of it. It is on the web somewhere, i will grab the link if i can find it.

Alot of the 4wd modification specs are the same as Queenslands specs.

ie, 2" spring 2" body
+24mm-15mm tyre
1" track increase etc

Is it therefore worth engineering a modified fourby now if the laws are all going to change in a year or two? Will these new laws force owners of engineered 4x4's to change their whole setup?

How soon are these new laws coming in in VIC? I spoke to Vicroads this morning and they didn't seem to know anything about the new laws coming in soon.

From the response immediately above yours, if Vicroads know nothing about it, it's likely to be just rumours. Unlikely they could make it retrospective.

Unfortunately I'm more cynical; I wouldn’t believe anything that most bureaucrats have to say.
