Anyone heard of a "G-Pack" MQ??

I had a thought the other day. After the pain subsided I asked myself "is there was actually a "G-Pack" MQ Nissan patrol??".

I've found out that the fella I bought my Patrol off told me a few white lies and now I'm wondering if the "G-Pack" title he gave the car is true or false.

I did a Google search and came up with G-Pack Land Cruisers but no Patrols.

He told me that G-Packs came from the factory with metal guard flares and a collapsable back seat. He also said that they were a little wider than other models?

Is there any truth to this or just another white lie??

I think this is all true for the G-pack cruisers - wider as in wide wheels, 3rd row seats etc.

Never heard of a g-pack patrol though! Think this guy was just a moron - did this g-specification actually affect your decision to buy?

My mates old mans G Cruiser only had 5 seats. 4 speed & 7.50x16's.

Never seen a Patrol with metal guards only plastic & that was only on vehicles fitted with 10.5x15.

All MQ-K's were the same width (without the wide wheel option of course).

The rear seat in the SWB was collapsable so was the third row in the Wagon.

The guys name wasnt Pinnochio was it?

Same as mine, they were called the Deluxe. Mine had plastic, an old freind for the family bought one brand new in 1985 & his flares were plastic. They were probably an option. There was an option of colour matched flares, maybe these were steel

I will have to have a look at the workshop manual tonight to see what they are. Cannot remember what they called the high roof ones.

I asked him if he meant a boxer style engine like the VWs first made in the 1940s, and he said no, definitely Porche.

porsche has also lent a hand to studebaker, seat, audi, harley davidson (the v-rod Revolution engine), daewoo, suzuki, hyundai etc etc etc but it never made a suby engine.

my 'deluxe' (D pack? ) has factory metal flares (black, not colour matched) but not fold down back seat. I've heard that there were some MQ/Ks with the fold down seats, but never seen one. Might be they weren't available with the 7 seat option, as the back row folds up to the back of the middle row, so a fold down middle row would be pretty pointless?

He's on my "sh!t list" now! To answer a few of your questions, the guards are definatly colour matched. (silver) The back seat folds up against the front seats and there's a piece of webbing on the bottom of the seats that loops around the Jesus rails on the side pillars to hold them up. It looks pretty original.

And no. It didn't affect my decision to buy it. I thought it was a good buy. A SWB MQ Patrol with good tyres, plenty of rego, manual and in original condition (even the old AM radio!) and 164,ooo kms on the clock and a box or spares (inc clutch, pressure plate etc). It fit the criteria. At that stage I was also looking for a small block chev to rebuild and play with. So he threw in a 350 short block with it. Cost me $5000 all up.

The metal flars were an 'optional extra' and came in white or black....
color coded to the body was an extra extra
They were still available as a spare part through Nissan 10 months ago

The rear seat in mq's is the traditional 2 seater 'dickie seat', in 84 models and continuing through the MK range the wider seats were available which allowed for 3 passengers in the rear.
The compliance plate ( in the enginebay ) will have the seating capacity stamped on it and will read either 4 or 5 depending on the rear seat type.

Oh and all mq/mk rear seats fold up against the front seats regardless of their width ( 2 or 3 seater rear seat )

Some ppl have fitted the wider seat to the earlier MQ's but have not had the compliance plate updated..... would pay to check yours

Just to clarify - I assume you mean all SWB mq/mk have fold up seats, because none of the wagons I've seen have had them

It was a GL bought out in the mk model and has a wider wheel track (gained only by wider offset wheels) but it is written in the books as wider track. It had qiute a few goodies the std one didn't.
Get this as well the price when new was $39000.00

My old MK had a set of metal flares.

They actually look quite good on the car, but if you get any serious flex happening they will rub on the tyres.

okay fella's i have a 1986 MK GL SWB patrol, she had the steel flared guards as fitted by factory, untill they where removed for 33's.

GL's had custom pinstripping with GL in the stripping on the doors. color coded canopy, factory power steer as standard i believe, and full headlining under the glass canopy, rear foldable bench seat for two. nicer triming so they say, but covered in mud who can tell any way...

if i ever work it out i will put some pic's one day.

was this the luxury speck mk with a metal canopy with headlining, flairs and trim on the doortops (like a gq), and half width spare wheel carrier. My cousin used to have one like this. I dont think i have seen another with a metal canopy.
