Bull Bar Modification
Ok. I have an idea in my head. (WOW)
I am thinking of getting the top cross tube of my bullbar modded to make it a hex shape as opposed to a flat bar. For room to mount lights + winch.
I can get all my welding done for free, but would prefer the new piece of tube to be bent into shape not three pieces cut and welded. But I guess once the bar is bent for me, It could be welded into place.
Who in Melbounre should I see, to get something like this done (the bending bit)
Heres a very quick pic, yellow spots is bar, want it like pink line.

bending
eddie, im having a 60mm tube bent at westy's in fern tree gully, they could certainly do this, mine is for a roll bar and has 4 bends and will cost about $140, so for a short piece like that with only 2 bends it shouldn't be that expensive.
why not mount the lights on top???? what other mods do you need to do to fit hi-mount????

Thanks.
Couple of reasons why I want the bar like this, main one being, I dont want the lights on top.
To fit the Himount, my bar is not a winch bar, so going to have to create a cradle for the winch, and cut out the plastic grill in one section.
Will really wait to I have the winch and then see what has to be done, and let the welders work it out

.
yeh u would have to modify winch bar anyway to fit the hightmount, cutting the grill is a good idea so you dont loose approach angle by having a bulge at the front of the bar like the gq hi mount bars etc..

It might not be real person friedly, but if you rock that bent piece forward a little you will gain more protection for your lights and could loop your winch cable around it while on the track rather than have to wind it in and out each time you need it.

It's not what you buy, it's what you build.

Just buy a cheap bender. I'm looking at a sep/oct Trade Quip catologue and it states: 1/2 to 2", vertical/horizontal, includes six formers (dies), 12 ton long stroke hydraulic jack @ $199. I've used a mate's (Hybrid) and I bent 60mm heavy wall pipe no troubles using the 2" die. It cannot do a sharp bend however and you would have to do 2 separate bends and weld in the centre. A good tip if you want smoother bends is to pack the inside of the pipe with sand and weld on a cap at both ends. It will reduce the crushing effect.

Is that a JD2 style bender or a bow and arrow style bender. Do you know what I'm talking about? I heard those bow and arrow ones are totally crap although they are pretty cheap and may work sufficiently. I know they wouldn't be able to do a sharp bend though. Yeah any price on notchers? Are they drill type notchers or punch type?
grimbo wrote:So Tonka id you ever do your bullbar like you asked and if so how did you go about it? I know this is a grave dig of epic proportions by bogged but I'm sure the answers might be tech related
Nope.
I cut my grill and radiator support mounts and went the other way.
