Modding the instrument lighting on GQ's.

Post by RN »

My 93 Mav has green background lighting on the instruments.

The earlier Patrols/Mavs had a different coloured instrument panel but I am not sure of the overall effect at night when they are lit.

Question:

Can you change the green instrument lighting on the later instruments to say, orange or red like the modern vehicles are displaying these days. If so has someone done it and was it difficult?

I am presuming that you would have to remove the speedo housing and gain access to the inner workings.

my 89 model is orange as standard. You could do it easy enough, the ricer boys like to do it a lot. Behind all the instrumentation there should be a couple of tiny globes and they will probably have green rubber socks. You can buy rubber socks in any colour you want. They look like tiny condoms. Try someone who sells VDO or autometer gauges perhaps because I know they have the same sort of backlighting. Personally I wouldn't bother, each to their own.
