Custom paint jobs on GQ's

Custom paint jobs on GQ's
Mate owns a GU which has a customised paint job. Looks smart but subtle.
Every Patrol he has owned has received the treatment. Not radical but just enough to be different.
I am aware of the changes that Nissan performed over the years to spruce up the GQ and the way the Mav received the two tone effect.
Wouldn't mind getting an idea how members have altered the appearance of the GQ by way of paint.
PIX please.

paint
would have to agree with roadnazi, have thought about doing something different with mine, but the paint is to dear, and i don't feel like painting it again, everytime i go out, paint is to bloody dear
bucketofbolts is sold, :(
Yeah I have lately been thinking I'd like my Mav to be a more distinctive colour than the current standard dark blue over grey.
I was thinking of something like yellow. The body is actually pretty straight, and there are only two dents that would need to be bogged over before painting.
It's just the cost of the paint.
I don't even want a super glossy paint job, just a different colour even if it still looked as dull and shitty as the current paint.
Hmm.

Using 2 pak paint systems.... $70 for 1 litre of G/P hardener, about 108 dollars per litre of paint this is metallic, $9 a litre for G/P thinners, 1 litre of one shot primer is about $33
Just started primering up my bullbars and Ute tray...And i hate handling 2K paints, dont get the mix right (Paint To Harderner ratio) because you cant just mix up, say... 2 litres of paint thinned then add hardener what happens when you have left overs after painting It'll be a waste of money. So if the mix aint right the paint wont hardene and it'll turn to
SH!T and you'll have to sand blast the whole thing and do it again
Re: paint
You can use a ruler or measuring stick to get the mix right in your spray gun.Julian_4x4 wrote:i hate handling 2K paints, dont get the mix right (Paint To Harderner ratio) because you cant just mix up, say... 2 litres of paint thinned then add hardener

yeah, i bought paint for mine just before xmas, $120 a litre, just for the basecoat(metalic/pearl) and than had to buy thinners, clear and hardener, what a joke, wife picked it of coarse, thinking i was never going to use it, like i do, should make her pay for it, year right

I had a quote for $800 to press heat release vents into my bonnet..*hotrod style*
and then paint ghost flames over my bonnet,, basically the same colour as the original paint.. but you can only see them in the right light.. hence the name GHOST flames.

you can mix 2lt at a time, and put the unused portion in the beer fridge, if youre worried about it going off. it will store the whole day in a fridge no worries.antt wrote:2k is the easiest thing to use to get half decent result. and dont mix it 2L at a time, mix it in the gun
it will give you more consistent paint quality throughout the paintjob if you mix it all before you start. if painting a car in 2pack, i would mix 2-3lt (this includes all components) and get cracking.
remember to start from the ground up so you dont get dryspray on all your unpainted panels (do the boot, bonnet, then roof last). milk crates and planks make good scaffolds.
