Lifting leaf springs.

Post by greenhilux »

I am after some ideas on hoe to get an extra 2'' lift from the rear of my 2000 hilux. I've replaced the stock springs with 2'' lift jobs, but i need another 2'' to get it to ride level with the front. I have thought about lift blocks, ext shackles, add a leaf, and resetting them. The latter seems to be the easiest solution atm. Anyone else have any better ideas?

lift blocks and ubolt flip is very easy to do and only takes a a hr is u got the tools, but you will have to change the way u shoucks mount.
or you could just get longer ubolts and put the blocks in

i've got 2'' blocks and longer u bolts sitting in the garage, i ran into problems with handbrake cable when putting them in, didnt really wanna change it, so i was looking at the getting the springs reset. Also with qld law blocks are illegal :(

Yeah I wouldn't go the blocks for legal reasons. How is it that you need 4" lift on a hilux, you must have the torsion bars wound RIGHT up. The best way I can think of is to get custom leaves made up and run extended shackles. ( These too aren't Qld Dept Trans approved but wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as blocks) This way you wouldn't sacrifice as much in ride quality. Not what you want to hear after forking out for new springs though sorry.

If you want my honest opinion, pay someone to do it.

You will need to cut your exhaust in order to clear the drive shaft to lower the front diff 4''. The driveshaft itself is long enough. Then the swaybar will hit the driveshaft cause they brakcets included in the kit (pro comp) are long enough, so you'll have to fab some spacers.
You will also need a ball joint puller, and good luck getting them out without busting the rubbers.
You bashplate and inner guards will also need to be replaced with bigger items.
All in all it took about a week of nights, about 2 or 3 hrs a night. That was with 2 very mechanically minded people and all the right tools.

thanks for that i too got the procomp kit and it says 4-4.5 hours and i dont really believe it ive got the tools and mates in the know but like always - you modify and there is always a part or something that doesnt like it. I'll let you know how it goes im winding torsion bars back to factory height but already got 4'' body lift and 35's hope i sits well.
