To weld or not to weld that is the question

just wondering wot peoples thoughts r on welding my tube bar 2 tha chassis or do i make removable ?????????

welding 2 chassis will be easier than making it removable but wot r some pros and cons ??

All this is my 2cents so take it as you will :D

I prefer to bolt on rather than weld on. In the event of an impact, I'd want the bolts to give way before the chassis does. A lot harder to fix up a chassis than replace a few bolts...

Perfect example, drove my car into a barrier, the bumper and brackets were bolted to the chassis. Chassis is dead straight, brackets/bolts were stuffed...nothing 2 hours with a hammer couldn't fix ;)

I wouldnt weld it, i try to do everymod as if i had to sell the car in the near future. I.E. Have everything easily removeable so when that time comes, less hassle. Got better chance of selling a std lux than a highly modded one, people tend to think that mods=hard driving.

If you are slack and weld it to the chassis you can always remove it with an angle grinder, if you need to, when you come to sell the vehicle.

i wont b selling it it will b driven into the ground and then everything transferred in/onto another lux so selling it as a standard rig is not an issue

I'd be lazy and just weld it on. The thing is that if you do weld it on you are guaranteed that you'll need to move it to hook something up or bolt something else on or something...

i thought it was a big no no to weld on chassis, just look at truck chassis most come with big stickers that say don't weld, drill, grind or oxy the chassis!!!

Welding creates stress risers in the chassis. Stress = cracks = more welds = more cracks=....

I can tell you with 100% confidence that all chassis can be welded.

It is all in the prep and after work that makes the diff. We have every weld Xrayed and certified before it is release to be used in production.


Not that i know anything about truck chassis :)
