GQ Diesel Overheating....

Post by TomsGQ »

Hey guys, Iv got a 92 LWB GQ stock 4.2 with extractors and zorst.
Ever since i cracked the head gasket and replaced the origional radiator, the car has never been the same.

Driving around town the temp is around half wich is fine, but as soon as you put load onto it the temp reaches the first hot line, then if you dont back off it hits the top line and i have to stop and let it cool down.

Is there anything i can do to cool it down? has anyone had this same problem?
Iv tryed numerouse thermostats and lifted the bonnet but nothing is working!

Maybe a truck radiator?

cheers, tommo, your help would be much appreciated :)

I don't know what the problem is, but I do know that the factory set-up should have no trouble keeping the engine cool.

So, I would be looking at finding a fault in the system rather than making a modification. Also, I don't think it's wise to keep driving it if it is getting hot all the time.

Are you sure the head and head gasket were fixed properly? Do you know what caused the head gasket to blow in the first place?

See my reply today in the radiator thread. I just replaced my rad and thermostat and fixed the same issues as you. Thermostat was sticking and rad was on its way out. Also with my mods I went for a 3 core radiator...
