Bilstein 5150 Series?

Bilstein 5150 Series?
Well i need new shocks now and i want good shocks as they will be used for winch comps in the future (about 3 years time). My question is... are the Bilstein 5150 Series shocks any good? i am looking at the 14" travel shock, the part number is BF5-A198-H1

Drop shackles are 280mm when open which is 210mm longer than my standard shackles (i know they go on a angle which makes the drop a bit less) and then a 40mm Toughdog spring lift.

Cant yet, shackles still to be fitted but shocks on truck now wont even reattach once shackles are fitted as they are too short (only just able to attach now)

Even if they are too long (doubt it) then i would be going for the 12" travel in the same series, what i want to know is are they going to stand up to the punishment of reqular offroad work and winch comps in the future?

what the plan is. make new shock hoops that are 220mm longer than the ones in their now (i will have to chop body to do this) this will allow be to fit the 14" bilsteins which have a collapsed measurement of 517mm. and an extended measurement of 886mm.
my standard shocks have a collapsed measurement of 300mm and an extended of 430.
so, 430 (standard extended length) + 210 (extra drop shackle will give) = 640mm (total drop with original shock mounts)
300 (standard collapsed shock length) + 220 (extra height added to upper shock mount) = 520mm (collapsed length of bilstein 14" shock)
640 (total drop) + 220 (extra height added to upper shock mount) = 860mm (extended length need of new shock)
the bilstein measures 517mm collapsed and 886 expanded, a perfect fit i think

I run twin 6100 12" fronts and singles on the rear and would not concider usings anything else now. The build quality is well worth the exspense of these shocks. Ive hade Koni's ( very good ) OME and OME LTR's, also Rancho's ( very poor quality compared to others ) and have only had Bilstiens fail fron external impact damage. These shocks are monotube construction so you need to ensure there well protected. Have had mates that have used all the brands of shocks ive recomended Bilsteins properly set up for the vehicle and they all have been throughly satisfied.

I have Edelbrocks & BBCs in stock for the lengths that your require. They are in my opinion superior because to get simialr performance you would have to go to a Bilstien 7200.
I plan to do tech articles for Outterlimits regarding shocks and valving but it take alot time and more than I have a the moment, however check these links out to the pirate website.

Additionally I can also do custom valving to better suit your requirements. I will also add that if you design your suspension correctly by setting your bumpstops, links and valving to ensure they are working together you will not damage the shock and you will only need to run one shock., Particulary if you run Edelbrocks.
