Gearbox leaks/no breathers?

Post by sudso »

I have an 87 single cab Triton 2.6 petrol.
There is a couple of leaks, one from the gearbox and one from the transfer case.

I installed new yoke seals and even a new slip yoke from the transfer case to front propellor shaft because the old slip yoke was pitted and rusty around the outer.

Main problem is that my brother wants to buy it but it still leaks.
I discovered that the breathers arent there and after I cleaned the trans. I found silicone plugging some holes in the casing.

So I am after a pic or 2 of where the breathers are supposed to go (about 4 holes are plugged) so I can fix it before my brother buys it, he's not real mechanically minded.

My theory is that the pressure in the tranny cant go out the non-existent breathers so its pressurising the seals and leaking.

cheers
