dissabling overdrive in GQ auto

Post by Vulcanised »

Is there any way to dissable overdrive on the auto? running 35" wranglers on 3.9 diffs works fine.... until it goes into overdrive at 90kph. it runs at 2,300rpm at 100kph (keeping in mind it's 10% out, so 90 on the speedo is 100kph) It drops to 1,600rpm in overdrive and has little to no acceleration in that gear..... wasn't any better with the 31's on it when i brought it home..... it would use less juice if i just run it in 4th gear without overdrive engaging..... anybody know how to do it?

i'm not sure how it's supposed to work....... but it only has a "power" button which means it jumps straight back to 3rd gear, or of you use it front a standing start, only goes as far as 3rd gear, then drops into 4th as soon as you switch it off. Then overdrive at 90kph

I thought it was only a 4sp gear box in a GQ. So 4th gear is overdrive (.87:1 - or something like that).
I do notice with mine. It does seem to have an inermittent spot. ie if you have over drive on (1900rpm @100km/h) and go full throttle. It seems to pause around 2300rpm before the revs increse to approx 3000rpm which I guess is 3rd gear.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....

Guys
Without o/d engaged by your electrical switch you`re top gear is third. When you switch you o/d in( mine has a light on dash which then goes out) the box moves into 4th ie. overdrive. Two or three secs later it will feel as though it moves up another gear as revs drop again. This is the convertor locking and this is the stage that will be overgearing your truck. I think you can mod this as I read of a circuit switch some time ago that can be made to do it. Watch out for possible cooking of the torque convertor so look into it thoroughly. Rodney at Wholesale Automatics will advise you.
