Busted Lockrite
G'day , running a lockrite locker in the front diff (Dana 44 4:56 gears ) done bugger all work & its sheared the drive pins. Is this a common problem ? if I replace the pins will it continue to smash em?
will removing 4 of the 8 preload springs help?
Please don't suggest air locker will fix the prob.
need new pins where do i get em?

My first lokrite lokka in the rear of my MQ took 3 weeks to arive and then shat itself in 2 weeks. It rounded off all the dogs on one side. I got another under warranty and has lasted 2 years with 35" tyres. The replacement had a full set of dog teeth whereas the first had 3/4 and then the rest machined off im guessing for oil flow. When my first one failed it also broke one of the pins but not the rest dont know how that happens.

I have had a open stock carrier is bent, where the ring gear holes are.

Clearances
Thats the secet to lokkas and lockrites, correct clearences.
Dont expect to just be able to just bung the bloody thing in, throw it all back together and expect it to work as advertised all the time.
The instructions that come with them will list 2 sets of clearences, typically .006" to.012" for clearences of the cross pin to the 2 central spacers and .150" to .170" for the clearence between the 2 toothed segments ( all that makes sense when its all sitting in front of you).
To get the clearences correct you may have to have spacers machined to suit or you may be lucky and eveything will fit straight in with no adjustment required. Each one is different thanks to the tolerences of modern mass production.
Get the clearences right the grip forces and tooth engagements are correct, it unlocks when it has too and everyones happy.
Thats not to say youll never break one, but it makes it harder.
Also allow your self 3 times the time you think it will take to do it the first time.
