Snorkel Rubber Grommett Thingy...
Snorkel Rubber Grommett Thingy...
I want to do a snorkel for my Patrol like the one on the attached link. Question though... what is the rubber thingy called that is placed around the hole that is cut in the front quarter panel and where would i source such a thing from?
Oh... and one other question. Is the hole for the air filter from the engine bay into the front quarter panel in the same place for diesels as it is for petrol engine patrols? I ask as i intend to do an engine swap from the 4.2 petrol to the 4.2 diesel if i can source one.
here's the link of the one i want to do showing the rubber bit.

I dont know where to get it from, but that snorkel is THE UGLIEST pos I have ever seen in my life!!!!
you could always just get some rubber edging in a 'u' shape from somewhere like clark rubber and line the hole with that.

The hardest thing about owning a jeep is telling your parents you're g a y!!
hey i never said it looked good! I personally think the well known brand names look cr*p too. I'd rather though, position it as it shows in the photo and buy a cheaper LR snorkel to fit than pay a wad load of more money for something that imo still doesn't look good. In a nuttshell I'll chose substance first before style anyday, particularly when substance can at at times cost you 1/2 as much.
As I'm based in the UK, Clarkes Rubber [which if i'm not mistaken is in Australia?] is a bit out of my way.
Anyone in the UK where i could then pick up some rubber edging like in the photo?
As for my second question [Is the hole for the air filter from the engine bay into the front quarter panel in the same place for the TD42 as it is for petrol engine TB42 patrols?] does anyone know the answer to this?
Thanks for your help.
Harv.

Cheers Harvey - thanks mate
We've only just begun on the white one. We bought it with the turbo fitted, but that was pretty well the only mod.
We've put 2" of body lift under her (no spring lift yet - but will go only 2" when I do), Safari snorkel, a Piranha dual battery system and custom tray which goes where it normally doesn't on the diesel - in the right-hand rear corner next to the turbo, a Milford cargo barrier, Outback Interiors drawers with integral fridge slide, 33" MTR's, GME TX3400 UHF, Garmin GPS-III GPS, EezyAwn rooftop tent, front half-rack (home made by a talented welder-mate), Warn 8,000lb high-mount and ARB bar cut and shunted 2" to match the body lift.
All-in-all - a basic tourer - but we love it.

really I think the only ugle thing about that snorkle is the way the rams is on top. I would have put an elbow in it so it ran along the top of the roof alittle. Like many of the tube snorkles are done for winch comp cars here.
examples I can think of are Shreq, birdy's old yellow ute, hotties shorty and BRTs MK. Then it doesent look to bad.
As for entering the guard in that area. I have been told there is a fair bit of bracing etc for the guard and body around there. So this may not be the best spot to enter.
Unless this just puts it into the guard then enters the engine bay like normal.
