nice work this idea has been floating round my head for a few months now. are you doing this conversion into a petrol or a disel and are you making automatic or manual if manual where did you get te flywheel and clutch made and how much is it all costing and what about the bellhousing

Dan ( Surf owner ) is concerned because another local with the V8 is having trouble with sensors when in the mud and water, also he admits hes no electrician and if it craps out in the middle of nowhere he won't be able to fix it.
Since we tend to do quit a few trips with water up the windscreen hes not keen on stopping in the middle of the river ( especially in winter when the water temp is < 5 deg )
Oh well his call, I was looking forward to having a go at the wiring, always nice to have someone else guinea pig something you might want to do yourself at a later date

a little bit of preventative maintinance would be more effective than abandoning the project.
I mean no matter what you put in there..its will be seseptable to water and mud...

If you ever get the chance take a look at the V8 loom and ECU you'll understand why there's some doubt about waterproofing the beast. Ask BJ, there's a hell of alot of wiring going to a heap of sensors.
The truck is not going to be used for comps but more for weekends disappearing into the mountains, rivers and bush so a simple conversion is Dans prefered option
eg: The truck is auto so we can't tow start it, if the starter gives trouble you're in for a mission as it hides down in the V under the inlet manifold and EFI sh1t.
My 5M is EFI but the computer only needs two main sensors to keep it happy, Temp and Airflow. The spark is still from a conventional Dizzy. I've had water up the windscreen and it still goes, if the ECU dies I can actually make the injectors work manually
I would have to say if it was my truck I'd give the V8 a go, but I'm not to scared to get into the wiring and sort a problem out, whereas Dans electrically challenged and would not know where to start.
If it was a comp Toy then no problem, bust it - then sling it on a trailer and go home, but some of the trails we are doing now are hard enough to get in to without having to tow someone out !!

To me it looks like there is no possible way to remove it without first removing the intake manifold.
Imagine having to do that in the rain, 100K's from the nearest garage at 2:00am in the morning, outside temp -5deg, just to get the mongrel to START !!
