Mechanic wise in the ways of GQs

Post by grimbo »

I am in need of a good mechanic for my GQ. Had some overheating issues at Xmas. Replaced the leaking water pump and cleared the blocked radiator but unfortunately it looks like the head gasket is about to let go.

I am not mechanically minded so don't even bother saying do it yourself, it will never get done thhat way. So I guess I need to get it done and whilst at it the valves needing looking at due to the LPG setup, a couple are on the verge of burning out.

I need someone in Melbourne preferably western suburbs around Yarraville or around Richmond. Any recommendations.

My mechanic is in Pascoe Vale South and is into GQs, he used to have one, his brother has one etc and he likes them.

The only complaint I have is that once or twice he has gone over the original estimate but he did have good reasons. I like him because he is a smart guy who is good at custom stuff like engine conversions as well, rather than just knowing the basic stuff.

Jerry at Melrey Automotive, it's the corner of Melville Rd and Reynard St.

I don't know the number offhand. He knows me so if you tell him Jason with the Mavericks sent you... well, actually, it probably won't make much difference but you might as well tell him ;)

It's on the 55 tramline too if that helps.

Those guys in Kielor should be able to help you out as well Grimbo. All but one working there drive patrols (I am pretty sure this is correct). And they have had most Patrol engines apart to see if they can make them go faster. So they should be good. (I hope so one of them does work for me).
And I know both Andrew and Juzza have told me some ways they have had heads fixed so they are less likly to get cracks. Wish my memory worked cos then I would pass it on, what they do.

Just spoke to the guys at On Track in Keilor 53 Slater PDe 9331 6536. very helpful over the phone. Seems like good prices and they offer a water bypass system that would help eleviate cooling problems. Will probably give them a go I reckon
