Jason Michaels here, competing in Project: Big-ass. We're finishing up final prep on our overloaded, too high, over powered Disco. Still a lot of little things to do but you all know how that is.
Currently I'm fighting with why the 4.6 we installed won't lite... :(
Curious, I've emailed and called but no reply if anyone can answer this I would appreciate it greatly. We opted to not go for an internal cage as we can almost rest assured our top heavy bitch will roll once or twice, err well maybe even three times. We mocked up an external cage but I can't get anyone to comment on what exactly is needed. We are planning on tying into the rear bumper/frame, rock sliders/frame and front bumper/frame. In the CCDA it mentions that you need to have a brace behind the seats. Can anyone confirm that "over" building an exo cage will suffice? If so what do you all recomend. This is first comp rig so we're learning as we go.
Many thanks, can't wait to get our asses kicked by those Nissans. ; )
As the rules stand at the moment, there is no provision for an exo cage. Thats not to say that you can't have one but you still need to satisfy the requirements for internal rollover protection as well. Can't wait to see all of you next year at outback. I just sent in my application.

i would suggest going to the ccda website and asking in that forum.
or even better speak to Paul or Sharyn
i think you will need a internal cage with a cross brace . remember the cage isnt to protect your truck its to protect the driver and co-driver.
and just quietly i know that they work
you can always build and internal cage and extend bars out and along drip rails aswell for a bit of protection for your truck

A number of guys do this here in OZ and it works well. The bars over the drip rails don't have to be too thick either. It's just a brush guard.
Turtle beats rabbit at Broken Hill. It's been suggested I should put my trusty old 5 grand 60 in the OBC- all it needs is a roll bar so it would be a sub 10 car (not sub 10 seconds ... sub 10 grand). Funny thing is that it's more reliable than most of the battle rigs and would do OK. I'd get my ass kicked on opening night and it would take the week to get over it. Maybe we do a shame file if I run the 60 ... Shame on anyone beaten by the sub 10K 60.

Mark Riley used to get his 60 moving, though I doubt it was a sub $10k car

I'd love to see you kick some expensive butt. There's a few people out there that could come back down to earth
