still have to build a cage, tie rod and draglink, brakelines, waiting for my series 3 rockhopper, make a trac bar, fit sams winch ;) , get a fuel tank, harness, finish off the rear gaurds and i am sure there is heaps more i am forgetting!

Hey Mick,

Could you post some picks of the rear tubs when done? We're about to cut them out of my body shell as well and i'd be keen to see what you do to fill the holes back up again.

Question: Have you flexed the car to see how far up those tyres come? I'm just curious if the new wheel wells are going to be big enough to squeeze those tyres into.

It's looking good mate... happy to see that it is coming along quite quickly.

i havent flexed it up yet. I dont think there is going to be any issues in the rear. The problem is going to be the front when flexed up and turning. I think i might have to run it without the wheelspacers on the front (i have 2inch spacers on it at the moment). I have cut the foot wells back to the body mount and redrilled the centre bolt 3inches forward but i dont think it is enough. I dont want to re drill the centre bolt any further forward as it will end up too close to the front of the spring pack. I will change the front end around at a later date but i am running out of time to get it ready for qld, so i think i might just put some big bump stops on it for now.

Yeah i was just wondering about that - because when my 34's are inside the guards at full flex they grab the back of the head lights... though you have set up the car spring over (i.e. your wheel sits 4" further from the body) so you may not get the same amount of "stuff" that i'm getting.

The LJ on 36's in the vic zook club gets so much stuff that in relation to my car the tyres would come up and through the bonnet (according to our measurements).

Looks good mate - i love the big tyres and no guards look - definately the way i'm heading too.

Cheers,

they wont hit the headlights the will hit the footwells. I am going to drill the centre bolt another 35mm or so further forward and see how it goes.

I wont have the problem of it hitting the lights because of the shackle reversal. As my wheel compresses it moves away from the lights and into the footwells, whereas your zook without a shackle reversal swings into the lights.

We have moved into our new factory unit now so i can get a alot more work done after hours now with everything in the one place!

Looks like it travels pretty nice, those rears invert pretty well :D

Earlier in this thread you mention making up driveshafts, what did you end up with exactly?

The shafts are custom made by me. I have a loooooong slip shaft in the front with the hilux uni at the diff and the zook uni at the transfer. Running an standard zook shaft with shackle reversal you will pop the front shaft. In matts zook we ran a hilux slip joint (longest one we had available to use at the time) and it still pops out. We now hope to have the problem fixed with the new shafts we have made.

The rear is also a mix and match of hilux and zook. The rear will be changed to a CV shaft (not a cardan joint) that we are making. It will have these shafts in it for xrcc and then we will change over to the new shaft when we get back.

Why would you keep anything zook when it comes to those shafts? To put a hilux u-joint at one end and a zook u-joint at the other end doesn't make sense to me, am I missing something???

My thoughts are that if you need to make any changes to those shafts piss them off all together and start over.

i didnt have a full hilux shaft to modify to put into the zook. I made the shafts just to get it going for queensland, we have new cv shafts to go in it but they wont be ready before xrcc.

Well that 'splains it then :D

I'm curious what this CV shaft is that you're working on. Is it similar to the shafts on Glenn Dobbin's cruiser? (i think he used 100 series CVs)

Hey Mick,

I see that you have removed the fuel tank at the back there... I gather you are replacing it with a fuel injected tank?

Is it going back in the same spot? or are you relocating it to somewhere else?

We are putting my vitara efi tank behind the front seats (just behind the step up onto the tray area), it's going to be mounted half above and half below the floor i think.

i am going to make up a new one, it will mount between the cage half below and half above the floor like you are going to do. Going to make it about 40-50L if i can fit it.

My vitara engine is a carb model. Why are you going to fit an efi tank? just make up a surge tank if you have fuel delivery problems.

i will get back to you about the top.

you should see it at xrcc, i ordered a series 3 rockhopper ages ago and it was supposed to be here at the end of last month and it still hasnt arrived!! If it doesnt arrive i dont think i am going to drive it.

Does anyone have a series 3 transfer i can borrow for the weekend?? If i break it i will replace it with the brand new set i have on order.

my mistake - thought you were going the EFI vitara engine.

we did the maths on it and it turned out cheaper to buy the vitara efi tank then setting up a surge tank with a lift pump / high pressure pump etc... Plus my sierra tank was overdue for replacement :D

The trac bar has a 360 degree greasable swivel in the end so it doesnt bind when it articulates
