3/4 elliptical upper leaf

Post by 4sum4 »

With the upper leaf do you want it to be flat to start of with so when the axle drops its under spring tension

From what I understand the weight of the vehicle will flatten out the leaf. Only when the main spring pack is at drop or near to it will the 3/4 leaf pull away from the chassis. When u install it the spring will probably curve away from the chassis under the natural curve of the spring

buggies are not as good as coils but they will increase your flex with leaves cheap & easily.
Did mine in an afternoon cost me about $20 in materials.
Don't think "linking it" will be that easy on the wallet.

i dont think it will make very much differance, seen both and they seem to work the same... infact gonads old orange buggy just had a peice of tube, not even a spring... maybe some trial and error is the only way to find out for sure.

elliptic

Post by vanbox »

i did it to my sierra......

used datsun leaves as the elliptic and took 1 spring out of the sierra leaf pack. also unfolded the brackets to hold the leaves thogether.

attached are a couple of pics of flex with shackles i made myself.

the springs are mounted using 2 U bolts (should really have squear edge U bolts (like hilux)) and 8 mm plate. total cost about $10

(would recommend 10mm + plate as the bolts need to be tight and i bend the 8mm)

my 2c.

would it be better to use two 6mm thick leaves or one 8mm leaf for the upper :?:

guessing 2 6mm would provide the most resistance

Paul that shackel setup is hell hillbilly im envious of you :D

I'd just use a long shackel with plenty of flex in the bush's.
