Turbo or V8
Turbo or V8
G'day I'm after a bit of advice on what to do with my 88 Mav. She's running a TD42 with 270,000km on the clock. I'm looking at either fitting a Switzer turbo kit, water to air intercooler and getting the fuel pump tricked up - all through the boys at Opposie Lock in Balcatta over here in WA or throwing in either a Holden 5L or 350 Chev. To go the turbo route I don't think I'll get much change from about $8k. From what I'm tole the cheapest I could do the V8 conversion is around $8k depending on what engine I go foe etc. The main thing that puts me off the Turbo is that she's done 270k and I don't want to have to rebuild the engine if she cant handle it. Any advice and any tips on how to go about conversion, where to source engines would great
Cheers

Dont think you will have trouble with that amount of klms on here as shes only run in plus others have turbod around the 500000 mark with no probs but best to do a compresion test first to make sure. The turbo rout is pretty much all bolt on so id stick with that but would use the denco switzer kit as there more advanced in my opinion.

Turbo the shorty V8's are just head aches and your not going to get much more power.
Plus i think you have been well over qouted for your turbo kit for 8k.
Can do a kit fiited for about half that with an intercooler.

Turbo..You be VERY happy when done.
I have similar lift/tyre arrangement to you. I have a T/Glide turbo running just under 10psi of boost and with the 35's it still brings a smile to my dial. You will enjoy driving the car again.
Also I put mine on at aroun 270k as well and have been told similar things to what bogged mentioned. Don't cook it or give it a drink and do oil +Filters 5000kms and it will last dang nearly forever.
As I said I am running a moderate amount of boost with the standard fuel pump dialed up a bit. The Power is enough to keep me happy and it is setup with longevity in mind..
