Hi Guys, My first post ! I feel all new again
I have joined this group after been reading about the Toyota V8s to Hilux and Surfs on the Lexus V8 web groups, I have been wanting to buy one of these for a while but now I starting to look at mayby getting a 80 series, prices start at about 10gs for one.
As I will be buying a vehicle with a over 300 thousand ks so I would look a doing a engine conversion to a Toyota V8 (The crown 1UZ-fe) after the factory engine calls it quits!
From what I have read, and owning a Toyota Soarer with one, I would like to swap the fuel eating 6 and fit this V8.
Has anyone here done this?
Can you use factory engine mounts/belhousing/flywheel/clutch from a 100 series? especially since the engine is from the same samily as the 100 series, just it is older, only 4ltr, no VVTI.
or can you some of the aftermarket suppliers parts.
I will be using the 80 for a lot of road travel, towing my 700kg off road trailer and sand/gravel roads, so I thought this engine might be a good choice to fit to a 80 as I cannot afford to get a 100 series with a factory V8

have you tried the marks webpage, loads of kits there, and they don't have the part they may be able to fab one or point you in the right direction.
have you also considered a complete 100series driveline. i know feck all about 80 gearboxes, but if it's done 300k like the motor, it might decide to lunch itself with a nice fresh v8, so instead of a rebuild you could save the hassles of buying a bellhousing etc and plonk the lot in.

I thought the 1UZ-fe would be not much different to the 6 when it comes to power, a fair bit more(about 180kw) and about the same low down power as the 6 would be, mayby a bit lesscrankycruiser wrote:wouldnt the 4ltr V8 be a tad small for a lard arse 80??
Should be more fuel efficient than the 6 on the Highway.
I know in the Soarer that they can get down to 9lts/100ks and thats a auto 1700/1800kg car
After reading a few of these type posts, if I had to make the decision what to do when the OE engine died.... I wouldn't blow the money on 1uz conversion. I'd see how much it costs to hot up the 1fz and put it on gas, or look at another torquier engine alternative.
Lots of people say the 1uz is a great base for forced induction but I haven't heard of many getting around, probably because you could trade up to a turbo diesel 80 or 100 for less money.
I used to be #1 engine conversion fan for any 4x4- but being in the middle of my first I can say it's damned expensive and the light at the end of the tunnel is still a long way ahead.
So if you can get the same or better result from working ur existing engine than putting in v8 I reckon it makes more sense.

Yep totally agree with Slosh and moreso as you indicate you intend to do a lot of towing etc.
I guess the facination with this engine is they're Toyota and are cheap but they're not my cup of tea You need something with more torque as these engines are sadly lacking in that area. They are luxury car engines afterall.
I'd be spending a tad more on a lower mileage 80 and then supercharge it which will add heaps more grunt and better mpg and none of the conversion hassles to worry about and the whole deal will still probably turn out cheaper than doing a 1uz conversion and be better.

If you really want a 1uz talk to Scott at Venom in Slacks Creek Qld, he just finished a supercharged 1uz in a commo and the low down grunt is fantastic a lot better than standard.
From memory was around 10 - 12g as a drive in drive out conversion
but as mentioned this plus you 10g purchase price would buy a decent truck
If your able to do most of the work yourself your looking at about 3g for the supercharger kit from Scott
