Injector pump leakage

Post by the plough »

3L diesel....not as bad as the heading sounds but it seems to be leakin from a plate that bolts onto the injector pump below the right side timing cover. I have read many books so far and none have had anything in them about the thing...is it simply takin it off and replacing gasket or is it something worse??
any help would be great!!

It should be an easy fix of a gasket. Its a common problem with all tojo diesels. Does it stop leaking once the engine heats up? Apparently the low sulphur guel is the cause. I have heard(but never seen it) of people putting in a litre of brake fluid into the fuel tank, brake fluid has a seal conditioner in it.

Is this preasuried gasket...meaning does it have to be a genuine one from toyota or can i make a new one from some gasket paper i have downstairs?

Rotary pumps dont have gaskets. all sealing is done by orings.

These orings are leaking now as we have low sulpher fuel which is not compatable with older rubber components.

You have two choices, fix the leak and hope no more show, or take it as a sign and do the pump properly. if you are getting close to timing belt time, you kill 2 birds with one stone.

Hope this helps

sure it's easy.
Undo the throttle linkage. Make sure you mark it in relation to the shaft first. Unbolt the top of the pump and lift it up. there is a spring connected to the govenore lever. disconnect it and remove. Fit new O'ring gasket. Remove the govener screw fron the housing. That's the screw with the lock nut. Count the turns so it goes back in where you remove it from!!. If you don't remove this screw you will bend the govenor lever in the pump when you refit the lid!!
Refit lid with new gasket. Do not do up FT you'll just strip threads. Refit govenor screw and throttle linkage. When you try and start it if it rev's high or won't idle it'll usually mean you popped the linkage back on the shaft a spline out.
Hope this helps

it now seems more leaks have formed from hardened orings...diesel injection specialist wants 600 to pull apart pump replace with new orings, supposed to last forever, and put it back together..

Its is fair if they offer a warranty on paper, ours are always strip and quote jobs, makes it fair to both parties and no hidden suprises.

Does this include remove and refit??
