Tire choices.

Post by Ippie »

Hi Guys,

Lucky I've found this forum and learn there're lot of people with great information for Vitara.

Currently my Vitara, 1996 2000cc V6 5dorrs, is using 235/60/16.
But, I want to switch to 225/75/16.
My Vitara is a standard without any lift.

I have tried to put my spare tire on with the size 225/75/16 and drive it around for a short while. There's not rubbing.

But I really want to ask for advices if 225/75/16 would be fit all right.
I would use my Vitara on road most of the time.

Please see the photos.

Thx in advance.

Can't help with the tyres but dig the rims. What are they?

The rim is 16" x 7".
Not sure about the offset.
But, it's pretty much align with the car body.

By the way, what does "wonky" means?
:?:

Anyway, do you guys think the 225/75/16 would be all right to fit without offroad function?

Cheers.

Probably should be fine as the 235/75R15 is a common fitment to stock Vitaras without problems. The tyre you are proposing is slightly narrower and just a touch taller but the unkown is how it will work with the wider track you have and the different rims. The only way to know for sure is to fit it and check. You've done this so there is your answer. The only issues that might arise would be at the extreme ranges of movement offroad.

Yeap, that's right, mate.

I wouldn't go off road often.
I would be driving my vitara on the road most of the time.
Just want to change the tires and make it more aggresive look.

Hope I'm in Aust now.
So I can go off road more often!

Cheers. :P

P.S.

Is the stock Vitara fitted with 235/75R15?
For what year models?

I have a stock 1996 Vitara (LWB) fitted with 235/75x15, on 7" sunraysia rims and have no problems at all.

No, they were not fitted as stock but they fit a stock standard Vit.

Hi cj,

I was in Sydney for 12 years and returned to Hong Kong 6 yrs ago.
So I would count myself as pretty Aussie.

Hi Eddy,

So I think my Vitara is pretty similar with yours.
Do you go off road with your vitara as fitted with 235/75/15?
I guess you mean it's all right for on road or off road as well?

Thx again, mate.
