ModChip Vs Snorkel Query for Vitara?

Post by RedVit94 »

HI all, im thinking of getting either a snorkel or a modchip installed, to help give me abit more go. Any feedback on people who have already done these mods. Ive looked thru a few of the posts, though would like to know what people think, as Modchip, vs Snorkel, wich ones better etc. Pros and cons.
Does anyone know any places in Sydney, where i can get a modchip supplied and fitted. Or even anywhere near Chatswood region, for a trustworthy mechanic. Thanks

Above for a LWB '94 model = 1.6l EFI Vitara- Std apart from extractors and exhaust.
Thanks guys for help, appreciated.

The snorkel made no difference in performance on mine. What it did do was help keep my engine safe when doing river crossings. If you are looking for some performance options aprt from the exhaust then maybe give Tighe Engineering in QLD a call about getting your cam reworked. Also you could look at an adjustable cam gear and underdrive pulley. I did the cam and gear and it definately added to the performance.

Here's the links

If you go with a cam gear then get the timing cover plate too. Adam may also do a deal if you buy all three items.

Some people say a snorkel provides more performance by providing a ram effect, maybe for a carby mode but with efi a sensor near the air filter will automatically compensate for the difference in air mass.
A chips pretty expensive by the time your dyno tuned properly. If there is some magic chip that don't need dyno tuning wouldn't they fit it at the Suzuki factory ?
