LN106R Dual Cab.. cramming subs behind those rear seats.
I didn't think it could be done... but I was reading a 4wd mad ( no idea which issue ) and I saw a LN106R with a pair of 12's behind the rear seats. Essentially they where just mounted to a huge bit of MDF with no enclosure behind them. (not ideal but they appeared to fit?)
I previously thought that they wouldn't fit. Has anyone tried to do this?
If the magnet on a 12's sub fits back there although difficult couldn't a box be made up using fiberglass to extract every last cubic inch of volume from behind there.
I've had my subs stolen twice off the back seat. Currently I'm going with out and it's killing me.

I think you will find it hard finding a 12" sub with a magnet that will fit in behind the seat, (perhaps a cheaper brand SVC sub they seem to skimp on magnet size) you could just mount them as you suggested on an MDF board and use the volume of the enclosed area behind the seat. I dont know how this would sound migh be ok might result in horrible hissing noices of air escaping through gaps. Glass would be another option gives more options of size, will give better sound just depends how much effort and $ you want to put into it.
What about making the front out of mdf or plexy glass and making a propper rear out of fiberglass? possible?
Even if the cost was high its low in comparison to the thought of theft again.
2x subs and box is $1000~
spending $500 on a fiberglass box wouldn't bother me... so long as i never ever ever ever had to buy another one =)

Plexiglass is pretty expensive as your'e going to need it pretty thick. If your contemplating spending around 500 for the box, just make up a fibreglass one, you can do it yourself it is pretty easy. Have you tried looking at 10" subs if you dont listen to alot of rnb etc two 10s will probably suit the music better.

Alpine are a bit dear perhaps but i know that one of their models of their 12 inch subs has no magnet hanging out the back, it is at the front with the cone of the sub. i helped a mate fit one to a commodore ute. cheers boys. i got a ln106 d/c aswell and i toomk the rear seat right out to build a storage and stereo setup but i think the seats going back in.
Mate i just went and measured up the mounting depth behind my rear seat. Theres about 18cm to the foam at the back of my seat so youll have abour 16cm allowing for excursion thickness of the glass, this will allow you a 10 or 12" SVC sub in easy and like tonka truck said they have slim subs availble now, i havent heard them or seen the price of them yet so i dont know how they would go. Goodluck mate
ok i'm a drum and bass head so goes my name junglist =)
Need basslines so deep and rolly that it would make RNB look like trebbbely crap!
So I can't go have 10's.. got be 12" or bigger.
I have no idea how to fiberglass what's involved?

Its pretty easy mate if you look on the net there will be hundreds of tutorials on how to fibreglass. Basically all you have to do is mix up some resin apply it to some fibreglass matting and let it dry there are techniques to do it like anything but it is pretty simple. Youll be best of first ripping out the seats covering the floor and back with some alfoil and begin by making a mould of the rear of the vehicle then design the box onto this.
Mate take it from someone who looked very deeply into doing this. Dont do it. To fit 12'' subs behind the seat, you need to remove tool kit and jack, brackets etc. and then remount your seat a few inches further foward. There isnt a 12'' on the market that will fit behind those seats. Especially if someone is siting on the seat.
I got the shits with it and ended up removing the rear seat and installing a custom box with 4x12''.

My mate's mate was crapping on after about a million australia day beers that he'd cut the back of my cab for me and extend a box backwards.
He said it would cost me a few cartons of piss it should be an easy job he's a sheet metal presser or something? can't remeber was drinking and sitting the sun all day my self.
After that we worked out I just need to get my other mate from accross town to spray paint it for me. Another carton or two and we're sorted.
4 cartons of piss. 2" extended enclosure. Sounds good to me! =D
I'm thinking if I went that way and my mates wern't just drunk.. it would only be about an inch or two deep (i don't want anyone to know subs are in there and have them stolen again eep!).
You wouldn't even notice it. It wouldn't reach the tray. I'm not sure what's standard but after my body lift i positioned the tray at least and inch away from the body.
Is this a legal mod? It's not modifying any supports so i'd guess it would be ok. I'll have to look into it.
I'm about to do a 1uzfe swap..mmmmmmmm.. 1uzfe swap. =D so i don't want any (more) hassel with pits. The bribe to get it thru atm is going to cost more than my mods =)
YES "guys at ARB just reset the radio to. The pin for the radio would be handy if you've got it"is your dad home tomorrow morning?
damn man that's depressing news.greenhilux

a good setup with 3x 10" subs wired in series with the right sized enclosure will pump out just as much if not more than 2x 12" subs..junglist wrote:ok i'm a drum and bass head so goes my name junglist =)

if you have the room to fit 2x12" subs (remember that the space between the floor and the top of the seat is angled, your sub becomes thinner as it is sitting on the same angle) you can use 16mm mdf for the front and seal it strait to the cab.also use some triangled 16mm mdf to go between the cab and the front of the box for rigidy (sp). buy the PROPER sound deadening pads or goo and seal the metal behind the mdf..
once done fill the now SUB BOX with dacron (pillow matting) as this will make the subs think this is a bigger air space and will provide a much deeper bass.
by doing this you will save a fortune in fibreglass matting ,resin, hardner, not to mention all the work that would go into it (once dried you still have to seal the inside of the front of the box) only to find out there is alot more work to go because the glass shrank when it dried because of no support or laying it too thick in one go..
hope this helps somehow.

Ive just put 2 subs into my Rodeo dual cab.
Pioneer make a 12" slim sub but it wouldnt quite fit
Complete Audio in Adeliade had some that would fit but i cant remember the brand. They were $300 for a 10inch and $400 for a 12inch. This was more than I was keen to pay.
so I went to Jaycar and tried their 10". It may may have fitted without a full box but I went with 2X 8inch subs in a box. The box is 700 long, 320 high, 160 wide a tapers up to 50 wide at the top.
I filled the box with dacron. Sounds good but, not as good as my old 12 inch was.
I just wish now that i bought the 10inch ones as they wouldve pushed a lot more air.
Good luck with it.
