newbie disco ownwer

hi guys. just bought my first landy and for that matter my first 4x4.
it has had an after market suspension upgrade (OME) and appears to have been raised by a couple of inches. It has 16" wheels and 205R16 AT tyres fitted. If I were to by a set of wheels and tyres specifically for off road use am i restricted to the dimensions I have mentioned above and is there any advantage in increasing tyre size etc.
also are there any mods that you would recomend as vital to a late 93 disco in order to use it as both transport and a functional 4wd for touring and 'fun ' offroad use

if it has been lifted 2 inches, then you can definitely run bigger tyres than 205s under it if you wish - maybe 31 inch muddies or something? Someone else may have a better idea of the biggest sizes possible under that setup.

If you intend to go offroad with it, bigger tyres (and more aggressive) are always helpful.

As far as 'vital' upgrades, there really aren't any on a disco or rangie, depending of course where you want to go.... My car is basically standard, other than a couple of mods to allow for 34 inch jungle trekkers, and it gets a fair way. Thats a lot due to my tyre choice though, but you can get aggressive simex in smaller sizes, including 32 inch..... I wouldn't use them for daily onroad use though.

For tyres a good size for a basically stock disco would be 245/75/16 (approx 31") giving a wider tread and not too much overall height increase.

is anyone a member or the landrover owners club of vic? is it any good i am thinking of joining with my girlfriend we are both late 20's and new to 4B would this club suit?? we are likely to join the hilux club as well as we have friends in it but figure it's a good idea to get involved in a club with specific interest/knowledge in our vehicle as well

Yes, 245/75's are a good all-round size to fit with a spring lift only. You'll be surprised how far you get with a slight diamiter increase, then you want to go bigger and the vicious cycle begins

I am a member, have been for 4 years, i can recomend the club. We have plenty of trips including new members trips and medium and hard for when you get more confident. The meeting is coming up on Thursday 2nd of Feb, you should come along and check it out. Meetings are held at the Veneto club in Bulleen, where are you located ?

A small Rear -of- the- rear- guard cut may be necessary with 245/75/16's, even with the 2" lift. Especially if you want to articulate it a bit. PM for a description and measurements.

FWIW, I've got a set of 31" BFG M/Ts that I put on my 97 Disco when I tackle some tracks.
They scrape the back guards pretty easily but I've just tried to be gentle at the moment.
I don't have any lift on it, so that should make some difference if you have a body lift, but not much (I suspect) if you have spring lift only. Although I stand to be corrected on this.
