Cause of noisy throw out bearing

Can anyone give me a rough idea what would cause a noisy throw out bearing?

The car in question isn't old enough for it to be an age factor, I am more interested to know if it could be the result of mis use.

I can't think of any form of abuse of the clutch that would cause throw-out bearing problems, but maybe getting water or mud into the bellhousing could do it. But then, you could do this without really abusing the vehicle.

I agree with chimpboy

I stuffed my throwout bearing due to muddy water/swamp getting into the gearbox.. siezed the bearing completely - started to score into the fingers of the pressure plate.. wasn't good

if you hear a fairly high pitch squealing when you put your foot on the clutch.. STOP DRIVING AND CHANGE YOUR BEARING

BlueMQ, is it a TJ you are talking about? (as I see you post in the Jeep section). If so then there is gear train noise in the TJs from 2000 till whenever the 5 speed NV3550(?) got replaced with the 6 speed. Sounds like throwout bearing spinning, goes away when you put the clutch in, but its some other gear noise. Sorry for the vague description. There is a Jeep TSB on the noise and the fix is some more grease or something like that. I can maybe digout a copy of it..... assuming you are talking about a Wrangler.... and then again it really could be the bearing.

Do you consistantly rest your foot on the clutch?

I was once told that this will make the throwout bearing consistantly spin therefore making it wear faster.

Yeah you are right, it is an 04 TJ.

But the noise is only there when you put the clutch in, and gets louder as you rev it.

Sounds like a worn throw out bearing (to me) but since it's still under warrenty I am just going to take it back to them and let them fix it.

It's not there when you got the clutch in; it's not there when you are driving (at least you can't hear it cause of other noises).

When you put the gearbox in neutral and let the clutch out, its there (you can hear it grinding).

If you race the motor, it gets even more audible.

Something ain't cool, and I won't be too impressed if it's not fixed under warrenty.

Is this a common complaint on these gearboxes ?

AX5 I am assuming it is (04 TJ 5 speed manual).

up to 99 = 5 speed AX-15
00 to 04 = 5 speed NV3550
06 onwards = 6 speed NSG370

The AX-5 may have appeared behind the 4 cyl TJ which we never got in Oz.
