maxi a frame joints, any opinions?

Post by andrew e »

Are many people running them? my stock one is a bit worn and i was thinking of replacing it with a maxi. I know bushy555 (aka silly dave  ) stuffed his a while ago and had hell getting it out. Anyone else had any trouble?

The other option is a treg coupling (im still not sure if it would work) mounted on the origional a frame and the attachment on the diff (salisburys have a bolt on taper rather than it welded on the diff).

Andrew.

yep, had one. It broke. Like everything else.

Actually didn;t break, just that the ball decided it wanted to spin more than the nut - so couldnt do it up.

In the end I jacked up me rear enough to put weight onto the ball, heated the bottom and finally pulled it off. Bought another 2nd /3rd hand off Andrew E, used it for a while until I buggered it.

Then I cut the top of the standard rangie, pulled the ball joint out.
Pulled the maxi apart and used the rangie ball (larger than maxi ball) in the maxi housing. Put it all back together and has been fine for the past two odd years. Is a modification I'd nearly be inclined to suggest to try one day.

As for the maxi greasable ball joint itself - yeah, it works.
Tried /testing with 9012's in the rear (with droopie springs) and maxing the shocks out, the ball joint still wanted more.
